The Kalinga Institute of Social Sciences (KISS) was invited for the College Level Seminar on Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) conducted by the District Planning Monitoring Unit (DPMU), Nayagarh on 11th February 2026 at Nayagarh Autonomous College. Representing the organization, Dr. Disha Bhatt, Assistant Professor and Deputy Director-IQAC, KISS Deemed to be University and Mr. Debendra Swain, Deputy Director-Partnerships, KISS shared their valuable insights on the various aspects of SDGs and its relevance for youth.
Speaking on the occasion, the Chief Guest Shri Lagnajit Rout, CDO-cum-EO Zilla Parishad (OAS), (SAG) highlighted some of the key initiatives undertaken by the Government and Odisha’s performance in SDGs. He also touched upon the relevance of seventeen goals for the students. The session was also graced by Shri. Bidyadhar Naik, Joint Director (P&S) (OPS); Smt. Arunima Kar, Assistant Director, Planning; Ms. Asfa Manzoor, Finance Expert; Mr. Niranjan Biswal, DPMU as well as Dr. Bipin Kumar Pattnaik, Principal; Dr. Ashutosh Mishra, and Mr. Ashok Kumar Sahoo from Nayagarh Autonomous College.
Addressing the U.G and P.G students, Dr. Disha Bhatt urged on the need for instituting student led clubs and societies basing SDGs. She requested the students to reflect on their syllabi and SDGs and draw interconnection between the two domains. While explaining the significance of SDGs, she added that National Education Policy 2020 has also emphasized on the importance of incorporating SDGs in the curricula. Furthermore, she shared some success stories and best practices adopted by institutions. Dr. Bhatt concluded by stressing on practicing passion and creativity as a key skill contributing in the implementation of SDGs.
Speaking in turn, Mr. Debendra Swain, threw light on all the Sustainable Development Goals with prime focus on the specific targets under each Goal. He explained in detail the performance of Odisha regarding SDGs and the roadmap envisioned by the state, hence contributing to meeting the UN Agenda 2030. He opined that the SDGs play a seminal role in realizing the vision for Viksit Bharat 2047 and Viksit Odisha 2036. Mr. Swain also shared the example of KISS as a model institution which has been addressing SDGs since its inception. He concluded in an inspiring note by discussing some of the major internships and career opportunities with the United Nations.
The session concluded with a Vote of Thanks by Shri. Bidyadhar Naik, Joint Director (P&S) (OPS).
