KAIZEN 1.0 Japanese Cultural Fest Successfully Organized at KIIT DU
Department of Language & Literature, School of Liberal Studies, KIIT-DU successfully organized weeklong KAIZEN 1.0 Japanese Cultural Fest from 7th to 14th March, 2025 in three thematic sessions held on different days with support of its student-driven Japanese language society, KIZUNA, in order to enhance cross-cultural understanding among students and strengthen the internationalization drive of the University.
The fest aims to promote and celebrate the uniqueness of Japanese culture within the KIIT community by offering engaging and interactive cultural experiences for students. The festival seeks to provide students with extensive exposure to Japanese language, pop culture, games, and cuisine.
The first edition of the annual event KAIZEN 1.0 is a first-of-its-kind outreach activity in the campus on an international concept fully managed by the students from different Schools & batches under guidance of their Japanese language professors. This event has helped students to articulate their passion through a thematic cultural project which honed their managerial & interpersonal skills for career ahead and created awareness of the benefits of acquiring global competencies through learning foreign languages at KIIT.







The KAIZEN 1.0 Fest commenced on7 March 2026with theinaugural session featuring “Pokémon Hunt”, “Otaku/Anime Quiz”, and a Japanese skit titled “Makudonarudo.”The launch event wasgraced byAmbassador Debraj Pradhan (Retd.), Senior Director General – International Relations; and Prof. (Dr.) Padmakali Banerjee, Director General, KIIT-DU. Both dignitaries congratulated the students for their creative initiative and encouraged them to developcultural and linguistic competencies along with technical excellenceto succeed in today’s competitive global environment.
On 11th March, 2026, an energetic FLASH MOB activity was conducted by the organizers through captivating performances in order to promote the KAIZEN 1.0 Fest & its activities among students while inviting their participation. The event was graced by Prof. (Dr.) Sakshi Kaul, Dean, School of Liberal Studies.
The major attraction of the mega day event of KAIZEN 1.0 held on 14th March, 2026 featured an elaborate cultural showcase including interactive games like chopstick challenge, kendama balancing, fish scooping, calligraphy & manga drawing, karuta card game, tattoo booth; authentic Japanese cuisine like Sushi, Mochi etc and traditional music and dance performances. The closing ceremony was graced by Prof. (Dr.) Jnyana Ranjan Mohanty, Registrar, KIIT-DU who also felicitated the winners of the Pokemon Master competition.
Through initiatives like the KAIZEN Cultural Fest, the Department of Language & Literature at KIIT seeks to encourage creativity, nurture student talent, and strengthen cultural engagementthrough performances, competitions, and themed activities. Events like KAIZEN are expected to inspire greater interest in foreign language learning while promoting linguistic proficiency and global competencies within the KIIT community.
