KIIT Law School Organises Mega Legal Awareness Camp at Special Jail, Jharpada, and Biju Pattanaik Open Ashram
The Legal Services Clinic, KIIT Law School (KLS), in collaboration with the NSS Unit, KLS, organised a Mega Legal Awareness Camp on 2 November 2026 at Special Jail, Jharpada, and Biju Pattanaik Open Ashram, Jhamujhuri, Odisha. The camp was organised on the theme “Awareness of Rights of Elderly and Terminally Ill Inmates”, with the objective of promoting legal awareness, strengthening access to justice, and sensitising participants about the rights and legal protections available to vulnerable individuals.
The initiative focused on the legal safeguards available to elderly persons and terminally ill inmates, particularly those residing in correctional and institutional settings. The programme highlighted constitutional guarantees, human rights, statutory protections, access to legal aid, healthcare entitlements, dignity, and humane treatment. It also emphasised the importance of ensuring that vulnerable individuals are aware of their legal remedies and have access to appropriate legal assistance.

Student volunteers from the Legal Services Clinic and the NSS Unit actively participated in the camp, contributing to the awareness initiative and engaging in community-oriented legal outreach. Their participation reflected KLS’s commitment to experiential legal education, social responsibility, and the promotion of social justice.
The programme was organised under the supervision of Mr. Lokanath Mohapatra, Director, Legal Services, and coordinated by Dr. Pragnya Parimita Ray, Mr. Shashank Nande, and Dr. Susmita Priyadarshini Mishra, Faculty Coordinators of the Legal Services Clinic and NSS Unit, KLS. Ms. Amrita Bal, Assistant Legal Officer, also extended her support towards the successful conduct of the programme.
The initiative reaffirmed KLS’s commitment to promoting legal literacy, protecting the rights of vulnerable populations, and advancing access to justice through collaborative community engagement.
