French National Day: KIIT Department of Foreign Languages Organizes Screening of Animated Film *Ma vie de Courgette* (My Life as a Zucchini)
On the occasion of French National Day, a special screening of the acclaimed French animated film *Ma vie de Courgette* (*My Life as a Zucchini*) was organized at KIIT Deemed to be University on 14 July 2026 by the Department of Language and Literature, School of Liberal Studies, KIIT-DU, in collaboration with Klub Lumière (French Society), to commemorate the second Bastille Day celebration at the University.
Directed by Claude Barras, the film was released in 2016. Adapted from Gilles Paris’s novel *Autobiographie d’une courgette*, the stop-motion animated feature received widespread international acclaim. It was nominated for the Academy Award for Best Animated Feature at the 89th Academy Awards.
The event aimed to celebrate French culture and introduce students to contemporary French cinema as an important medium for understanding language, society, and culture. Students from various schools of the University attended the screening with great enthusiasm.
Following the screening, an engaging interactive discussion was held, during which participants shared their reflections on the film’s themes of childhood, resilience, friendship, and hope, as well as its distinctive animation style and storytelling. The discussion encouraged students to appreciate French cinema from both cultural and cinematic perspectives while fostering meaningful dialogue.
The event witnessed active participation from attendees, who expressed a keen interest in organizing more French film screenings accompanied by post-screening discussions in the future. The programme successfully promoted intercultural learning and strengthened students’ engagement with the French language and culture through cinema.
