Abstract

Design of effective equalizer for modern multiple-input multiple-output orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (MIMO OFDM) wireless system is an important research problem as reconstruction of original information is quite challenging in the presence of different channel impairments. The important research contributions in this paper can be visualized looking into two important aspects which includes a split complex extreme learning machine model trained using adaptive Levenberg–Marquardt algorithm and ON/OFF strategy of the equalizer using threshold based on signal to noise ratio (SNR) and inter symbol interference that indirectly helps in designing an energy efficient wireless receiver.

Abstract

Channel equalization performs a crucial role in practical wireless communication environment to reduce the consequence of ISI, noise and other channel distortions. In this paper, a sparse-based reweighted zero attracting incremental least mean square/fourth (ILMS/F) algorithm is anticipated to model an efficient adaptive decision feedback channel equalizer by taking the QAM modulated signal as transmitted signal which is passed through a nonlinear channel. The performance of the equalizer based on the proposed sparse-based ILMS/F has been analyzed by using software and hardware platforms. The FPGA implementation of the proposed sparse incremental least mean square/fourth (ILMS/F) algorithm validates the robustness of the algorithm.

Abstract:

GaN-FET devices are capable to provide high efficiency operation of dc-dc converter at higher frequency. The major problem of using GaN-FET in dc-dc converter lies in driver stage, which creates switch voltage ringing and high dv/dt during switching event. This creates false triggering of GaN-FET due its inherent low turn on threshold voltage. In this article, a novel non-isolated coupled inductor based bidirectional dc-dc (CIBDC) converter is proposed and tested with a modified inductor diode (L-D) based GaN-FET driver to verify higher efficiency operation as well as low switch voltage ringing and low dv/dt. The proposed converter is capable to provide higher voltage conversion ratios in both buck and boost mode. The steady state performance like switch voltage ringing, dv/dt immunity, voltage stress, current stress, efficiency, etc. of this topology is tested on a 250 W prototype using L-D based driver.

Abstract:

Proposed in this manuscript is a broadband bandpass filter (BPF) with dual in-band transmission zeros (TZs) and elongated stopband for application in ultra-wideband (UWB) networks. The basic structure is developed on the principle of broadside coupling of microstrip-to-coplanar waveguide. Semi-elliptical microstrips on the top are arranged in back-to-back manner and coupled to the open circuited CPW in the ground. The basic BPF is of 3rd order with good insertion/return loss. To this basic BPF structure multiple defected ground structures (DGS) in the shape of complimentary split ring resonator (CSRR) are appended to place dual Tzs within the passband and later dumbbell-shaped DGS are engraved in the CPW to widen the stopband. Also, an approximate equivalent lumped element circuit model is developed and its frequency characteristics matched against full-wave EM simulation. The proposed dual notched BPF is finally fabricated.

DOI: https://doi.org/10.1007/s11664-021-09189-9 (IF – 1.98)

Abstract

A linear regression-based method for extracting the threshold voltage of tunnel field-effect transistors (TFETs) is presented. The minimum tunneling width at the threshold voltage of a TFET is expressed as a linear function of tunneling widths corresponding to gate voltages. The regression is carried out using known simulated TFETs and verified on unknown TFETs, achieving an R2 value of 96.50%. The model is compared with and verified against methods and devices reported in literature, confirming that it is effective for predicting the threshold voltage.

DOI: – https://doi.org/10.1007/s13198-021-01282-w

Abstract

In an arc welding process voltage, current and welding speed are the major variables which ensures the quality of final weld product. But, due to its stochastic nature and random arc behavior, ordinary instruments will not be able to record such variations. However, a dedicated weld monitoring systems (WMS) coupled with relevant sensors can be used to monitor these fluctuations to enable its Realtime monitoring. In this research, a first of its kind review on various aspects of such WMS’s are presented and suitably discussed. Additionally, this review also includes a brief description on various soft computing and data mining techniques to process the welding data in predicting the quality of various welding parameters.

Abstract:

The optimal utilization of symmetric electrolytic capacitors (ultra-capacitors) for vehicular applications demands continuous monitoring and maintenance of its state of charge (SOC). Achieving the desired SOC in real-time warrants a mechanism for the optimal charging of the ultra-capacitor. In this regard, the present article proposes an optimal charging scheme to attain a predefined SOC from any initial value, within a given time-frame. The proposed non-iterative fractional calculus-based approach allows for analytically representing the charging current as a function of the desired SOC, charging duration and ultra-capacitor model parameters.

Abstract:

Time series data is generated in various sectors of day to day life. Among all, one of the most important areas of generation and processing of time series data plays vital role in medical analysis. In this context, various continuous time series dependent EEG and ECG (electrocardiogram) signals are the most important types of medical signals produced and monitored by doctors. This paper proposes a highly novel and robust approach to analyse and detect ECG signals for tracking of anomalies in the signals using Hybrid Deep Learning Architectures (HDLA). The proposed scheme implements self-supervised pattern recognition using Long Short-Term Memory (LSTM) networks in terms of autoencoder and decoder. Finally, the proposed scheme is tested on Physio-net data set. The outcome of the model can also handle noise associated with ECG time series signal, it achieves high accuracy and also solves overfitting problems in a robust and efficient manner.

Abstract:

This paper presents a new zero current switching bidirectional DC-DC converter for dual voltage automotive systems. The improved version of hard-switched DC-DC converter with an additional auxiliary resonant network, which is a combination of two auxiliary switches, two resonant inductors and two capacitors. The soft-turn on (ZCS) and soft-turn off (ZCS) operations are achieved by using two auxiliary resonant networks. In addition to that, the auxiliary switches obtain ZCS turn-on/ turn off operations, since additional losses are negligible. The simulation of converter design is performed on 100/350V/500W converter system operated at 75 kHz switching frequency.

Abstract:

In this work, methyl ammonium lead iodide (CH3NH3PbI3) thin films were deposited using spin-coating method. The thin films were investigated as a function of different thermal annealing temperatures with time being constant and as a function of time with constant temperature. The compositional and structural analyses have been studied by EDXRF and XRD respectively. The optical and chemical properties were also studied using UV-Vis spectrophotometer and FTIR spectroscopy. The characterization result shows the change in its properties with increase in temperature and time. From the XRD data, it can be observed that with an increase in temperature, the CH3NH3PbI3 decomposes to PbI2, and with an increase in annealing time, the CH3NH3PbI3 peaks show degradation. A basic comparison has been made in order to study the effect of annealing on the CH3NH3PbI3 thin films.

Abstract

Vehicular Ad Hoc Networks (VANET) represent the base for future Intelligent Transportation system (ITS). The technology proposed to face different traffic problems related either to human safety, general safety, or Internet-related services. MAC protocols and routing protocols were developed to play a vital role in VANET communication. MAC protocols represent the time organizer to utilize the channel efficiently. This paper introduces the concept of TDMA efficiency working under hybrid protocols. Efficiency of the frame serves in the enhancement and incrementing the bits in one TDMA frame. Efficiency of TDMA frame represents the ratio of useful information bits to the total bits in a frame. This paper discusses hybrid MAC protocols with respect to QoS parameters. It also provides a comparison between the efficiency of hybrid MAC protocols.
