Senior surgical oncologist from KIMS Cancer Centre Dr Sabyasachi Parida presented a video of his innovative technique of reconstruction of Central Breast Defects (nipple and areolar region) by using a local perforator flap.
As part of the pre-conference proceedings of the 35th Annual National Conference of the Indian Association of Surgical Oncology (IASO) at Madurai from October 6 to 9, Dr Parida was invited to present his master video on October 6.
Defects of the Central Breast following excision of cancer involving nipple-areola complex(NAC) or located close behind NAC are challenging and have been the subject of numerous publications worldwide over the years.
Dr. Parida has demonstrated a new improvement that promises versatile applications and has the scope for significant modifications in terms of size and applications. His technique was demonstrated in the presence of Prof. Dr. P.K. Das, Senior Cancer Surgeon President-Elect, IASO, and Prof. Dr. S.V.S. Deo, Director, Surgical Oncology, AIIMS, New Delhi, and National Cancer Institute, India.
The technique and quality of the presentation were appreciated by chairpersons and other experts in the field. Other experts who presented their invited videos on Breast Oncology were Dr. D. Damodaran from MVR Cancer Center Kochi who presented the FLAIR Technique for axillary staging, Dr. Ashutosh Mishra, from AIIMS, New Delhi, who presented on intraoperative brachytherapy and Dr. Sankaran Narayanan, from UK, who presented on Oncoplasty techniques.
