Webinar on “Recent Trends in Antenna Technology for Satellite Communication” at KIIT School of Electronics Engineering

RF Microwave Research Group of School of Electronics Engineering, KIIT Deemed to be University, Bhubaneswar & IEEE Antenna Propagation (AP) Society KIIT Students’ Branch organized a webinar on “Recent Trends in Antenna Technology for Satellite Communication” on 29th January 2022. The speaker of the webinar was Dr. Milind Mahajan, Group Director, Antenna Systems Group, Space Applications Centre, ISRO, Ahmedabad. Dr. Sudhakar Sahu, Professor, School of Electronics Engineering introduced the speaker.

The speaker covered many areas of antenna technology used in satellite communication. These include Contour beam antenna technology, Shaped beam using Direct radiating Array antenna, Ku Tx/Rx Shaped Gregorian Antenna, Multiple beam antenna technology, 3D Printing Antenna Technology, Unfurlable antenna technology, Shaped Aperture antenna of IRNSS, VHF band antenna for Automatic Identification of Ships (AIS) application, UWB Antenna for Ground Penetrating Radar. Dr. Mahajan encouraged the B.Tech/M.Tech to do their summer internship at ISRO. He also invited PhD Scholars to use their facilities like the simulation software, measurements at ISRO, Space Application Center, Ahmedabad. Further, he encouraged the faculty members and students to submit the RESPOND/BASKET proposals to ISRO HQ Bangalore for funding. Participants interacted with the speaker and asked many questions.

Sixty participants attended from KIIT Deemed to be University and also from other institutes of the country. The webinar was coordinated by Dr. Sudhakar Sahu, Counselor, IEEE Antenna Propagation Society Students’ branch; Dr. Jyoti Ranjan Panda, Dr. Rasmita Lenka and Mr. Niten Panda, Chair, IEEE KIIT Students Branch. The RF & Microwave Research Group thanked Dr. Achyuta Samanta, Founder, KIIT & KISS; Prof. Sasmita Samanta, VC, KIIT-DU; Prof. J.
