Special Lecture Series on Social Sciences at KIIT Law School

A Special Lecture was organized by the Department of Social Sciences and Humanities at KIIT Law School (KLS) on the 28th of September, 2021. This was the 2nd lecture in the Series related to Social Sciences organized at KLS on a specific topic of contemporary relevance.

The lecture was delivered by Prof. Deepak Kumar Behera, Vice Chancellor, KISS-DU. Prof. Behera spoke on the topic “Sustainable Tribal Development” (with special reference to Odisha). As an anthropologist, Prof. Behera highlighted how the programs aimed at uplifting the tribal people need to address much more than ‘development’. It must be sensitive and understanding towards their ‘inalienable culture’. His lecture also highlighted the issue of ‘displacement’ faced by the tribal people due to dams and projects. He also spoke about sustainable tribal development as ‘peace within, peace with neighbours, no tension between tribals and non-tribals’.

On this occasion, Prof. Bhabani Prasad Panda, Director, KLS and Prof. Sanghamitra Patnaik, HoD, Department of Social Sciences and Humanities were present, along with students and faculty members. A 2nd year BBA LL.B student, Ms. Prapti Hota anchored the event and a 3rd year B.A.LL.B student, Ms. Shruti Manjari Singh was the rapporteur of the event. Ms. Zeenat Taher and Dr. Binita Behera were the convenors.
