Counseling Session on ‘Career & Opportunities Abroad’ at KIIT Law School

Counseling Cell, KIIT-DU with the support of Department of International Law, KIIT Law School (KLS) organized a webinar talk by Prof. Molina Asthana, President Elect, Law Institute of Victoria, Australia on “Career and Opportunities Abroad in the Legal Profession in Australia” on 16th February 2022.

In her talk, Prof. Asthana described the driving force behind choosing the legal profession. Narrating her career path, she spoke about her journey and how she gained a foothold in the world of litigation. She advised the students on the importance of choosing the appropriate court they intend to practice as every court has its own culture. She shared her experience of legal practice in the Supreme Court of India, followed by her experience as an in house lawyer in Escorts India Ltd.  She highlighted some very pertinent points on issues and challenges of legal practice. Some amount of professional experience would be a prerequisite for pursuing an LLM program in Australia, she informed. Prof. Asthana also addressed students’ queries on internship and career opportunities in Australia.

Speaking at the webinar, Prof. J. R. Mohanty, Registrar, KIIT-DU introduced Prof. Asthana and shared some of the achievements of KIIT Law School. Prof. Bhavani Prasad Panda, Director, KLS thanked the Counseling Cell for organizing this workshop. Prof. Asthana is an eminent lawyer in Australia and is the first South Asian woman to be elected President Elect of the Law Institute of Victoria, informed Prof. Sucheta Priyabadini, Director, Counseling Cell, KIIT-DU, adding that she is also the National President of the Asian Australian Lawyers Association.

The program was coordinated by Dr. Ashwini Patra and Dr. Binita Behera, Faculty, KLS. Samyeta Bal, 3rd year BBA LL.B (Hons.) student anchored the event, while Ritwik Mahanti, 3rd Year, B.B.A.LL.B (Hons.) student was the rapporteur.
