COIR-Behavioural & Neurosciences Organizes Expert Guest Lecture on Climate Change and Environment at KIIT
The COIR – Behavioural & Neurosciences at KIIT Deemed to be University, as a part of the KIIT School of Management (KSOM), organized an expert guest lecture by Mr. Sanjay Patnaik, Director of the Centre on Regulations and Markets and Bernard L. Schwartz Chair in Economic Policy, Brookings, USA, on “Climate Change and Environment” on 15th July 2026. Dr. Shikta Singh, Head of COIR – Behavioural & Neurosciences, welcomed Mr. Sanjay Patnaik to the session and also set the context. Addressing the session, Dr. Arvind Tripathy, Dean, KSOM, emphasized the significance of the intersection of firm strategy, firm performance, environmental regulation and climate change policies.
Guest Lecture on Climate Change and Environment at KIIT
Mr. Sanjay Patnaik delivered an engaging lecture on Climate Change Regulations and Carbon Pricing, emphasizing the growing importance of sustainable economic policies, regulatory preparedness, and corporate accountability. He explained how government regulations shape firm behaviour and performance, while highlighting carbon pricing as a critical mechanism, since greenhouse gas emissions are no longer cost-free. Stressing the need for organizations to measure and manage their carbon footprint, he noted that firms reducing emissions can gain a competitive edge, particularly by adopting internal carbon pricing ahead of regulatory mandates. The session covered frameworks such as carbon taxes, cap-and-trade systems, and hybrid mechanisms, encouraging investment in cleaner technologies and making renewable energy more viable. Participants explored modules on firm strategy, the EU Emissions Trading Scheme, public policy, and the implications of carbon pricing for businesses.
With nearly 300 students, Research scholars, and faculty members participated in the workshop reflecting strong institutional interest in climate issues, enriching understanding of the intersection between environmental sustainability, market regulation, and business strategy, while inspiring future research and informed policy discourse.
