Sustainable Development Goal 5 KSAC Staff Observe International Women’s Day
The staff of KIIT Student Activity Centre (KSAC) observed International Women’s Day with the unprivileged women of Nilapadia Basti, Sailashree Vihar, Bhubaneswar. Under the banner of SDG 5 (Gender Equality), the women were sensitized on their rights and responsibilities and the importance of health and hygiene. Dr. Shyam Sundar Behura Dy. Director-Student Services, KIIT explained to them their rights to privacy and confidentiality, be treated ethically with dignity and respect, live without violence and fear and make their own choices. The other staff members Sonali Pradhan, Jayalaxmi Mishra, Mrutyunjay Panda and Aniruddha Roy sensitized them on the need to help break the silence, raise awareness and change negative social norms surrounding menstrual hygiene. This will help women and girls feel empowered to manage their periods safely, hygienically, with confidence and without embarrassment. All women were also informed about the Kanya Kiran initiative of Prof. Achyuta Samanta, Founder, KIIT & KISS. The staff distributed new sarees and sanitary napkins among them.
