Webinar on ‘Storm Water Management’ by KIIT Society of Civil Engineering Student Chapter

KIIT Society of Civil Engineers, in collaboration with ICE KIIT Student Chapter and ASCE KIIT Student Chapter, organized a Webinar on ‘Storm Water Management: Current Practices and Solutions’ as a part of the Knowledge Forum Lecture Series on 16th August 2020.

Speaking at the webinar, Prof. (Dr.) Debabrata Sahoo, Associate Professor, Department of Agricultural Sciences of South Carolina Water Resource Centre, Clemson University, USA discussed various challenges of Storm Water Management and presented his views on how it can be taken care of at its root level. He shared his project work named ‘Google of Water’, which uses smart equipment built with computer codes so that they perform more efficiently.

Speaking on the current situation of Storm Water Management, he said, “People are still not fully aware of working principles of manholes, sewage lines, etc.” Discussing advancements in the field, he remarked that the USA has made StormWater Management like smart equipment with an amalgamation of complex computer programming languages. He emphasized the basic methodology for flood control, i.e. rainwater harvesting, detention pond and erosion from the source.

Dr. B.G. Mohapatra, Director, School of Civil Engineering; Dr. Sanjib Moullick, Associate Dean; Dr. D. K. Bera, Dean, Training and Placements; and Dr. K. P. Samal, Faculty-in-Charge, KSCE also spoke. The talks were followed by a question & answer session, where students and faculty members got their doubts cleared about this intriguing topic. Earlier, the event started with a formal introduction by the host, Ms. Aishwarya Khambra.

The event concluded with a vote of thanks by Dr. K. P. Samal. Special thanks were conveyed to the organizing coordinators of ASCE and ICE for arranging this program and also to the participants for attending and contributing. The event was attended by more than 80 participants of both ASCE and ICE Student Chapter.
