KIIT Professor Selected as Editorial Academy Member of International Journal of Oncology, Featured on its Cover Page
The International Journal of Oncology from Greece has recently selected Prof. Gopal C. Kundu, Director (R&D), KIIT Deemed to be University as a member of its Editorial Academy. Besides, the journal published the biographical resume of research and lifetime career achievements of Prof. Kundu on the cover page of its latest issue (May, 2021).
Prof. Gopal C. Kundu joined KIIT-DU as Director R&D in December, 2019. In addition to this position, he holds additional charge as Professor of Medicine and Molecular Research at Kalinga Institute of Medical Sciences (KIMS) and Professor of Biotechnology at KIIT School of Biotechnology.
His areas of research at KIMS and KIIT are cancer therapeutics, drug targets and drug discovery, cancer diagnostics, understanding heterogeneity in tumor microenvironments using pre-clinical organotropic and PDX models, precision oncology and immuno-oncology. From 2019 to 2021, Prof. Kundu has published many papers in peer reviewed, high impact international journals along with KIMS and KSBT, KIIT-DU such as Oncogene, Nanoscale, Cells, Metabolomics, Cancer Metabolism, J. Biochem. Mol. Toxicol., Biomaterial Science, Communication Biology, Coronaviruses, etc.
Based on these and many other high impact publications, Professor Kundu has received two prestigious National awards; i.e., the National Bioscience Award from Department of Biotechnology, Government of India in 2003 and the coveted Shanti Swarup Bhatnagar (SSB) Prize from the Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR), Govt. of India in 2004. The Shanti Swarup Bhatnagar Prize is the highest honour and prize in Science by the Govt. of India.
Professor Kundu is considered one of the top-grade and leading cancer researchers in India. He has received the International Journal of Oncology Award for his outstanding achievement in Oncology from Greece in 2007, the International Young Investigator Award from Mayo Clinic, USA in 2012, Platinum Jubilee Award Lecture, 99th Indian Science Congress Association, 2012 and 7th National Grassroot Innovation Award, Rashtrapati Bhavan, New Delhi in 2013 and the Shri R.J. Kinariwala Research Award for Life Time Research Achievement in Cancer Research from Gujarat Cancer Research Institute (GCRI) in 2020. Professor Kundu is a Fellow of the National Academy of Sciences and Indian Academy of Sciences.
