KiiT International School has become the first school in the state of Odisha to have joined hands with Autism Society West Bengal (ASWB) with a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) in order to ensure that the efforts for special education are not merely aspirational, but translate into healthy teaching practices for the benefit of the students.

Being part of the KIIT Group of Institutions with philanthropy as its beacon, the school has cemented its resolve as the society has seen the success story of KISS unfold under the guidance of  Dr. Achyuta Samanta, Founder, KIIT & KISS. Also, Chairperson of KiiT International School, Dr. Mona Lisa Bal places inclusion as a high priority value of Education.

According to the MOU, West Bengal Autism Society led by Mrs. Indrani Basu (Founder Director) will provide educational support to the faculty of the school to streamline and strengthen its educational practices. Regular and planned interfaces between the two parties will create a pool of twenty trained special educators to guide fifty six students with special needs with a teacher student ratio of 1:3.

The areas of training will include helping teachers understand special children and their needs, customize teaching practices and assessments to empower them to join mainstream learning system without coercion or trauma of any kind. It will also engage with the parents to create awareness as well as help them cope better with special needs of their child with an enabling and supportive environment at home.

The school will also look to build an environment of trust and sensitivity towards special children by the school community as a whole, by addressing issues of adolescence, bullying and shaming among others with a conscious and informed approach to the needs of both sides. Nothing will give the school more happiness and satisfaction than to help the students with special needs find a niche in the mainstream of education, and finally their rightful place in the world.
