Five-Day National EAC Meeting on Technical and Higher Education in Indian Languages Begins at KIIT
A five-day Experts Advisory Committee (EAC) meeting aimed at strengthening technical and higher education in Indian languages commenced at KIIT DU on Monday. The national-level meeting has been organized by the Commission for Scientific and Technical Terminology (CSTT) under the Ministry of Education.
The meeting, being held from May 18 to 22, focuses on developing and refining the Fundamental Glossary of Electronics and Political Science in English, Hindi and Odia. The primary objective is to make technical terminology simpler, more accurate, and practically usable in regional languages, particularly Odia.
The discussions will also centre on promoting the use of the mother tongue in higher and technical education in line with the objectives of the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020. As part of the exercise, standardized Odia terminology is being prepared for nearly 2,833 technical terms in Electronics and around 4,000 terms in Political Science. The organizers have set a target of translating and standardizing 700 to 900 technical terms every day during the workshop.
Language experts, academicians, researchers and subject specialists from institutions including KIIT, IIT Bhubaneswar, IIIT Bhubaneswar, KISS DU and Odisha University of Technology and Research are participating in the meeting.
Speaking at the inaugural session, KIIT Vice President Dr. Ajay Pradhan, KIIT Vice Chancellor Prof. Saranjit Singh and Registrar Prof. Jnyana Ranjan Mohanty highlighted the importance of imparting technical education in the mother tongue and emphasized the need for accessible academic resources in Indian languages.
Prof. Benu Gopal Mohapatra, Professor and Director (CS), KIIT, is serving as the Chief Coordinator of the meeting. Prof. Sudhakar Sahu is coordinating the Electronics section, while Dr. Rudra Narayan Mohanty is coordinating the Political Science section.
CSTT Assistant Directors J. S. Rawat and Dr. S. A. Ansari from New Delhi are participating in the workshop and guiding discussions on terminology development. Deputy Director of the Ministry of Defence’s DGQA, New Delhi, Dipak Kumar Mishra, also attended the inaugural session.
