Seminar on “Waste Utilization in Cement and Concrete Industry” at KIIT
A one-day seminar on “Waste Utilization in Cement and Concrete Industry” was jointly organized by KIIT School of Mechanical Engineering and KIIT School of Civil Engineering, in collaboration with National Council for Cement and Building Materials (NCCBM), Ballabgarh, on 21st March 2022 in hybrid mode. The objective of the seminar was to develop a collaborative research work with NCCBM and KIIT Deemed to be University in the area of waste utilization.
In his presidential address, Prof. Saranjit Singh, Pro-Vice Chancellor, KIIT-DU highlighted the importance and benefit of waste utilization. Prof. Jyana Ranjan Mohanty, Registrar called for initiating joint R&D on waste utilization for cement and concrete industry in Odisha. Dr. S. S. Gupta, Senior Development Officer, DPIIT, Ministry of Commerce and Industry, Govt. of India informed about the Government initiatives on implementation of circular economy in cement industries.
Shri Ganesh Wamanrao Jirkuntwar, Senior Executive Director & National Manufacturing Head, Dalmia Cement (B) Ltd. emphasized waste utilization strategies adopted by various industries in Odisha along with R&D studies undertaken in cement and construction industry. Shri Didyendu Chakraborti, Scientist-F & Head, BIS Bhubaneswar discussed various standards practiced in Indian industries. Dr. Kalyani Mohanta, School of Mechanical Engineering proposed the vote of thanks at the inaugural session.
Technical Session-1 was chaired by Dr. B. N. Mohapatra, DG, NCCBM, where various eminent speakers from different organizations and industries delivered their talks on waste generation in various industries and their utilization in cement and concrete industry. Technical Session-2 and Technical Session-3 were chaired by Dr. Sanjib Moulick, Dean, School of Civil Engineering and Dr. Bharat Chandra Routara, Dean, School of Mechanical Engineering respectively, where speakers from different industries deliberated on various waste utilization techniques. The speakers included Mr. C. Satya Rama Krishna, NTPC; Mr. Mrunmaya Pasupalak, JSW Steel; Mr. Soubhagya Ranjan Tripathy, Hindalco; Mr. Suresh Vanguri, NCCCBM; Prof. D. K. Bera and Prof. P. K. Acharya, SCE, KIIT-DU.
Dr. Aparupa Pani, SCE, KIIT coordinated all the sessions in association with Dr. B. Panduranga Rao, Mr. Kapil Kukreja and Mr. Anand Bora, NCCBM. Dr. P. Chandra Sekhar proposed a vote of thanks. The event was attended by the students and faculty members from School of Civil Engineering and School of Mechanical Engineering, KIIT as well as industry experts from Dalmia Cement, Ultratech Cement, Tata Steel, JSW Steel, Hindalco, Nuvoco Vistas, BIS, etc.
