In its commitment to strengthening a safe, inclusive, and respectful campus environment, KIIT officially launched the Gender Champions Initiative with a sensitization and awareness programme on August 4, 2025. The initiative aligns with the University Grants Commission (UGC) guidelines to promote gender equity and empower students to serve as advocates for positive change. The event was organized under the society ‘Kamakshi’ – HeForShe under the KIIT Student Activity Centre (KSAC), bringing together creativity and advocacy to engage students meaningfully.
The session began with the ceremonial lighting of the lamp, followed by a welcome address from Dr. Krishna Chakravarty, Dean, KSAC, who emphasized the importance of developing socially responsible student leadership to advance gender justice. Ms. Sadhana Mishra from KIMS Hospital, delivered a compelling address on everyday gender inequality, offering insights into how deeply embedded societal roles and expectations influence daily life.
A theme-based dance performance artistically conveyed the spirit of empathy and shared compassion, while a mini quiz on gender equality, conducted by Prof. Parthiba Chakravarty, Faculty-in-Charge of Kamakshi & HeForShe, encouraged active student engagement and dialogue.
The session concluded with Ms. Gipsita Nayak, Deputy Director, KSAC, extending her gratitude to Prof. Achyuta Samanta, Founder, KIIT, KISS & KIMS, for his visionary leadership and constant encouragement, and to the faculty, student leaders, and organizers for their collective efforts in making the programme a success.
The Gender Champions Initiative is a timely step toward deepening gender awareness on campus—enabling students to grow as informed, responsible contributors to a more equitable academic community.
