KIIT celebrated World Water Day on 22 March 2021

KIIT celebrated World Water Day on 22 March 2021 and launched the “Jal Shakti Abhiyan: Catch the Rain” campaign at different places in Bhubaneswar.

The increasing water shortage globally has called in for immediate action from our side. Groundwater is one of the primary sources of freshwater, and to cater to the domestic and agro needs of our country, it is extremely important to stop its depletion. Rainwater harvesting is one of the most sustainable ways of supplementing other water sources. It is affordable and easy to implement in an environment with limited resources. On the occasion of “World Water Day”, KIIT Deemed-to-be UNIVERSITY organised a programme, “Catch the rain.” a campaign by the National Water Mission, Ministry of Jal Sakthi.

The NSS Team Of KIIT School of Biotechnology collaborated with a small quaint village of Bangali Sahi on the outskirts of Bhubaneswar to design and build a sustainable and eco-friendly structure for rainwater harvesting. The collected rainwater from surfaces on which rain falls may be filtered, stored and utilised in different ways or directly used for recharge purposes. Rainwater Harvesting is unrestricted from any sort of impurity, with relatively less storage cost and no maintenance cost involved except for periodical cleaning. It will help solve a huge problem for the people in this village.

The NSS team is extremely grateful to the NSS founder, Pro-Vice-Chancellor, Registrar and Programme officer for this golden opportunity.
