Dr. Prakashini MV, a DM student from Dept of Clinical Immunology and Rheumatology, KIMS presented the joint work of KIMS and KIIT School of Computer Engineering at the First Regional Research Conclave held at All India Institute of Medical Sciences, Bhubaneswar on their Foundation Day of 1st November, 2024. This conclave featured research from all across the region ranging from genetics to physical aids. Dr. Prakashini won the Second prize for the Best Innovation of the year.
The work presented by Dr. Prakashini was on machine learning based prediction of infection in patients with CTD-ILD (Connective Tissue Disease-Interstitial Lung Disease) given different immunosuppressive medicines. This is a joint collaborative project between the Dept. of Clinical Immunology and Rheumatology and School of Computer Engineering, spearheaded by Dr. Sakir Ahmed from KIMS and Dr. Murari Mandal from Computer Sciences. It comprises of a large multi-disciplinary team including Umakanta Maharana and Priyansh Srivastava from Computer Science; Dr Sangram Panda from Dept of Radiology; Prof. Ramnath Misra, Prof. Prasant Padhan and Dr. Debashish Maikap from the Dept of Clinical Immunology and Rheumatology.
The attendees applauded the work as a way to tailor therapy for CTD-ILD patients based on prediction based on CT and clinical parameters. The team is grateful to Founder Prof. Achyuta Samanta for making KIIT the perfect platform for such cross-disciplinary innovative research. Very few universities in the country have a medical school attached that enables such innovative work in the healthcare sector.
