KSRM Organizes a Webinar on Perspectives in Development

As a part of webinar series on “Perspectives in Development”, KSRM organized a talk on 27th August 2021  for the students of MBA (Rural Management).

The speaker for the webinar was Ms. Meera Shenoy, Founder-CEO, Youth4Jobs. Ms. Shenoy, in her talk, highlighted about the status of the World’s disabled where over 80% of the world’s disabled live in developing Countries, education levels are low and barely 0.5% have jobs. She also explained how youth with disabilities are vulnerable at multiple stages of life. In this context she shared about Youth4jobs initiatives to pull them out of the vicious cycle of poverty and take youth with disability into the virtuous cycle of opportunity.  Ms. Shenoy then elaborated Youth4Jobs strategies which focus on changing attitudes across 3Cs i.e. communities, college and companies; access to skilling, jobs and access to education. The vision is to have a better future for young India. She then shared about the success stories of a visually impaired youth and a hearing and speech impaired youth.

Ms. Shenoy is a pioneer in job-linked skills of rural, tribal and now youth with disabilities. She was executive director, EGMM, the first State government skilling mission, for the Andhra Pradesh government.  She also consulted with the World Bank, UN across South East Asia.  Ms. Shenoy set up Youth4Jobs 9 years back which has grown to be the largest organization in South Asia skilling less educated and educated youth with disabilities and linking them to jobs. This work has won the highest national and international awards, the most recent being Asia winner for MIT prestigious Future of Work award, Inclusion Innovation Challenge, and the Global Zero Project award.
