KIIT Languages Webinar

In order to promote learning of Sanskrit Language among students and youth for attaining personal and professional excellence, KIIT School of Languages (KSOL) organized an orientation webinar titled “Relevance of Sanskrit in Contemporary Society and its Scientific Dimensions” on 25th September 2021. A team led by Prof. (Dr.) Harekrishna Satapathy, Former Vice Chancellor of National Sanskrit University Tirupati and KISS Deemed to be University, Bhubaneswar made the presentation for the webinar.

Prof. Satapathy is a renowned educationist and eminent scholar and an expert in Ancient Indian Literature, Ancient Indian Ethics and Jurisprudence with over 40 years of experience in teaching and educational administration.

Dr Biswajit Das, Dean, KSOL graced the session with the welcome remark and encouraging words for the aspiring students.

The webinar was initiated with the chanting of Saraswati Vandana by Ms Madhusmita Sahoo. Ms Sahoo also recited slokas from Vedas and Upanishads. Relevance and healing effects of the slokas were explained in detail by Prof. Satapathy for awakening the supreme inner consciousness ‘Self’ of every individual to attain a peaceful and accomplished life.

Dr. Mrutyunjay Nayak, a scientist and scholar of Physics, explained the scientific perspective of Sanskrit by throwing light on findings in ancient Indian scriptures by sages of yesteryears on spirituality, metaphysics, architecture, astronomy, etc. They have proved to be the beacon of rationalistic discovery and inventions across humanity through generations, he added.

During his one-hour talk, Prof. Satapathy covered the whole gamut of subjects involving Sanskrit as a medium of communication since the advent of humanity which also marked its influence on early European language of Latin and Greek. Projecting Sanskrit beyond the purview of religion, he cited examples of Vedic chanting by Sanskrit scholars to initiate proceedings in the U.S. Senate to explain the universal appeal of the language. He also set examples of how the ancient Indian Jurisprudence of Dharma and Satya has dominated today’s system of Governance and Justice through their motto of  Satyameva Jayate (Truth alone triumphs) and Yato Dharmastato Jayaḥ (whence justice (dharma), thence victory) respectively derived from Upanishads written in Sanskrit. He stressed on the pursuit for learning of Sanskrit along with professional studies to enrich our day-to-day life for attaining a healthy lifestyle as well as spiritual, intellectual & economical well-being.

Around 200 people attended the seminar. The Q&A session was very interactive where many students asked their genuine concerns.

Mr. Sameer Kumar Das, Deputy Director, KSOL proposed the vote of thanks, while inviting the audience to enrol for the newly inducted Certificate Course in Sanskrit Language Proficiency of 30 hours duration for the upcoming session October- December 2021. KIIT Chess Academy

The first full-fledged residential National Chess Academy will be set up at KIIT and KISS, announced Sanjay Kapoor and Bharat Singh Chouhan, President and Secretary of All Indian Chess Federation respectively. An unanimous decision to this effect was made at Central and General Council Meetings of the All India Chess Federation held at Jaipur, Rajasthan on 24th September 2021. While initially, the intake capacity of the Academy would be 100 students, they will be transformed into Masters & Grand Masters after pursuing proper education and training.

In fact, since 2009, KISS & KISS in general and Dr. Achyuta Samanta, in particular, have been leaving no stone unturned in promoting Chess and players financially from the grassroots level for the wholesome growth of the game and players. Remarkably, a Chess player from Odisha has established himself globally at the cost of 26 lakhs spent on his training, promotion, and preparation. For the last 12 years, KIIT & KISS has been organizing regional & International level Chess Meets like KIIT International Chess Festival; National Premier Chess Championship; National Open Rapid Chess; National Open Blitz Chess; World Junior Chess; Asian Cities Chess; and FIDE Trainers Seminar, etc. Thus KIIT has propelled the stature of Indian Chess to the Global Level. Besides, Chess has been inducted into School Curriculum for the first time in KIIT & KISS in 2011 and since then Chess education has been imparted to students.

Expressing his pleasure, Dr. Samanta said establishment of a Chess Academy has definitely been a historic initiative. After the declaration of such a landmark initiative, Dr. Samanta thanked Sanjay Kapoor, President, and Bharat Singh Chouhan, Secretary of All Indian Chess Federation. He also thanked Ranjan Mohanty, President of Odisha Chess Association as well as newly elected Joint Secretary of AICF; Debabratta Bhatta, Secretary, and IM Shekhar Sahoo.

Dr. Samanta said, following the cooperation of Odisha Chess Association, the Game itself has enjoyed immense mass appeal in Odisha but also the opening of the Chess Academy has become possible in KIIT & KISS. For The last 12 years, a massive effort has been carried out by KIIT & KSS for the popularization of Chess. Today such a relentless endeavor has fetched dividends and earned its due recognition.

KIIT Workshop for Mentee Institutions

Paying back to the society has always been the primary focus of KIIT and its Founder Prof. Achyuta Samanta. As a part of its continuous and constant efforts of serving the needs of the society at large, KIIT has lent its hands to the UGC-PARAMARSH program. The objective  of PARAMARSH program is to enhance the overall quality of the mentee institutions and mentoring the Non-Accredited Higher Education Institutions to enable them to get accredited. Being an organization which earned the status of Institution of Eminence (IoE) by virtue of its quality and value system in imparting world-class education, it is obvious that there could not be any better option than KIIT in partnering UGC in this program.

Under the PARAMARSH program, KIIT is supposed to mentor five institutions. But following the decision taken by the Founder to spread the program statewide, currently KIIT is mentoring 26 colleges and three universities. Many more institutes have expressed their interest and are waiting in the pipeline. In the meantime, KIIT has successfully organized six workshops which have been attended by more than 200 Principals and IQAC Coordinators from colleges of different parts of Odisha. KIIT is also helping the institutions which are already accredited in improving their grade. Continuing this, KIIT conducted a workshop on 24th September 2021 to review the progress of the Institutions mentored by it.

Speaking on this occasion, Prof. Sasmita Samanta, Pro-Vice Chancellor, KIIT-DU and Accreditation Ambassador, PARAMARSH expressed her happiness and highlighted the importance of accreditation stressing the need to know the strength of the institution and plan for future course of action accordingly. She motivated all the participants to prepare a proper road-map for research, teaching and academics to get a decent rating in the accreditation process.

Prof. Jayanta Kumar Parida, Director, KIIT School of Commerce & Economics  conducted the workshop and reviewed the progress of the mentee institutions. Coordinator of the KIIT PARAMARSH, Prof. Parida, from his experiences of decades of being one of the members of accreditation committees of NAAC, enlightened the audience with various measures that can be taken by the institutions to ensure a good accreditation. Reviewing the performances of the institutions, he pointed out some key focus areas like Maintenance of Records, Curriculum Development, Research & Innovation, Extension Activities, ICT Development, etc, on which the institutions should work on.

Prof. Chinmay Kumar Panigrahi, Director-IQAC, KIIT discussed in detail about the different criteria under the revised accreditation framework. He appealed to the mentee institutions to work tirelessly to achieve their goal.

Earlier, in his welcome address Dr. Biswajit Mishra, Dean-Quality Assurance spoke about the various efforts being made by KIIT under the PARAMARSH program for the mentoring of the institutions. The program concluded with an one to one discussion with all the mentee institutions where they spoke about the various measures they have taken as per the advice of KIIT and how it will help them achieve a good accreditation. More than 70 participants, including the Principals, IQAC Coordinators and members from all the mentee colleges and universities participated at the workshop.
