International Webinar on Interdisciplinary Perspectives of Digital Humanities by KIIT School of Humanities
KIIT School of Humanities organized an International Webinar on ‘Interdisciplinary Perspectives of Digital Humanities’ on 25th September 2020. Prof. Asima Ranjan Parhi, Head, Department of English, Utkal University; Prof. Hrushikesha Mohanty, Vice Chancellor, KIIT-DU; Prof. Jyanana Ranjan Mohanty, Registrar; and Prof. Sudarshan Nanda, Head, Research and Professor of Eminence graced the inaugural ceremony of the webinar.
Speaking at the meet, Prof. Parhi connected the Digital Humanities with inclusion of mythology, while congratulating the School and the convenor for organizing the webinar. With so many learned resource persons participating in the webinar, the subject and the School will definitely be benefitted, said Prof. Hrushikesha Mohanty. Prof. S. Nanda expressed happiness about organizing the webinar on this trending topic by the School. Prof Jnana Rajan Mohanty welcomed all the resource persons and talked about the achievements of KIIT-DU.
Earlier, Dr. Depanjali Mishra, Convenor welcomed the participants who had joined the Webinar from different parts of the world like South Korea, Estonia, Egypt, Nepal, Bangladesh, Saudi Arabia, Algeria, Ethiopia, Philippines, Ukraine and Nigeria. She emphasized the need for the importance of Digital Humanities in academics.
The Webinar was graced by six distinguished speakers from all over the world: Prof. Onkarnath Upaddhay, Professor, Lucknow University; Prof Hassan Raeffat, Luxor University, Egypt; Prof Anita Singh, Professor, Department of English, Banaras Hindu University; Prof. Swarnavel Easwaran Pillai, Michigan State University, USA; Prof. Tirtha Mokhapadhay, Department of Art and Enterprise, University of PMGuanajuato; and Professor Smita Jha, Professor, School of Humanities and Social Science IIT, Roorkee.
Prof. Onkarnath Upadhay, Department of English Lucknow University emphasized on the Role of Digital Humanities in National Educational Policy of India. Dr. Hassan Raeffat talked about the technology and tourism sector after Covid 19. Prof. Anita Singh spoke on ‘Performance Art and Digital Methods’. Prof. Swarnavel Easwaran Pillai delivered a talk on Digital Cinema.
Prof. Tirtha Mokhapadhay spoke about the Archival Difficulties in Underesourced Economies and Prof. Smita Jha spoke on Digital Humanities and Hypertext: A Poststructuralist Perspective. The webinar ended with the reading of the proceedings by Dr. Shruti Amar, Assistant Professor, School of Humanities. Finally, the webinar ended with the Convenor, Dr. Deepanjali Mishra thanking all for their presence and the cooperation in making the webinar successful.
