KIIT School of Humanities Organizes International Webinar on ‘Methods, Tools and Techniques in the Current Research: Linguistics and Beyond’

KIIT school of Humanities organized an International Webinar on “Methods, Tools and Techniques in the Current Research: Linguistics and Beyond”. The inaugural session of the webinar was graced by Prof. Hrushikesha Mohanty, Vice Chancellor, KIIT-DU; Prof. Sudarshan Nanda, Head, Research & Professor of Eminence; Prof. J. R. Mohanty, Registrar; and Prof S. C. Swain, Associate Dean, School of Humanities on 9th October 2020.

The webinar featured keynote addresses by Prof. Sandagomi CoperahewaProfessor & Head, Department of Sinhala, University of Colombo, Sri Lanka; Dr. Paroma Sanyal, Associate Professor in Linguistics,Department of Humanities and Social Sciences, Indian Institute of Technology, Delhi; and Dr. Anindita Sahoo,Assistant Professor in Linguistics, Department of Humanities and Social Science, Indian Institute of Technology Madras.

Prof. Coperahewa talked on linguistics and social study of language, approaches in sociolinguistic research, methods and methodology of research, blending quantitative and qualitative approaches, types of sociolinguistic data and methods of data collection, sample size and ethical issues. The moderator of the session was Dr. Sahel MD Delabul Hossain, Assistant Professor, School of Humanities, KIIT-DU.

Dr. Sanyal placed his talk on Cartography approaches in phonology,basic aspects of phonology such as spirantization, reduction, metathesis, assimilation, etc. She also laid focus on theoretical frameworks in phonology such as syllable theory, prosodic hierarchy, and government phonology, etc. This session was moderated by Dr. Pallavi Kiran, Assistant Professor, School of Humanities, KIIT DU. Dr. Sahoo talked on Linguistics Research: Interactional, Diachronic and Typological Approaches and Typology of copula construction with regard to some Indo-Aryan languages.

The webinar was convened by Dr. Arpita Goswami, Assistant Professor, School of Humanities, KIIT-DU and Prof. S.C. Swain, Associate Dean. The Convener, Dr. Arpita Goswami, Assistant Professor, School of Humanities, moderated the webinar and also proposed the vote of thanks. As many as 120 participants joined the webinar
