KIIT SoEE Organizes Tech Talk on “Power Electronics in Hydro-Electric Systems: Configurations, Challenges and Future Scopes”
An online Tech Talk on “Power Electronics in Hydro-Electric Systems: Configurations, Challenges, and Future Scopes” was organized by the School of Electrical Engineering (SOEE), KIIT Deemed to be University on 29th August 2020. The talk was a joint activity of KIIT, IEEE Consumer Electronics and IEEE Industrial Electronics Society Chapters, Bhubaneswar.
In his talk, Prof. Thanga Raj Chelliah, School of Electrical Sciences, IIT Bhubaneswar outlined different challenges that are being faced by the researchers in the area of power electronic applications for hydro power plants. He started with the basics of different types of hydropower plants and discussed on the regulations of the Central Electricity Authority of India on hydro power generation. He elaborated his research works on excitation systems in large hydro, power converters, two-stage protection of converters and thermal loading.
Earlier, Prof. Chinmoy Kumar Panigrahi, Director, SoEE welcomed and thanked Prof. Chelliah for his valuable time for the Tech Talk. After completion of the lecture, Prof. Panigrahi and Prof. Sarat Chandra Swain emphasized on various challenges in the research work. The event was concluded with the vote of thanks by Dr. Ranjeeta Patel. All participants appreciated the speaker’s assessment of the future scope of the research work. The program was coordinated by Dr. Srikanth Allamsetty, FIC, Tech Talk. All faculty members, IEEE student members and Research Scholars of the School were present.
