KIIT School of Civil Engineering Organizes Workshop on Career Counseling

KIIT School of Civil Engineering organized a one-day Workshop on “Career Counselling for 2022 and 2023 Passing out Students” on virtual mode on 13th May 2021. The event included various facets of careers available to Civil Engineering graduates. It consisted of two sessions, each comprising three lectures, ranging from information and opportunity in Govt. and core jobs to higher studies and research in India and abroad, along with entrepreneurship.

Prof. Sananda Sarkar and Prof. Amit Das, the event coordinators started the event, which was attended by 130 participants, by welcoming the dignitaries and participants. Harshit Kishlay and Subhra Sharma, the student coordinators for the workshop, were the hosts.

At the inaugural session, Prof. A. K. Pani, B.Tech. Coordinator, SCE explained the purpose of the workshop and advised the students to rightly choose their career options. Prof. P. C. Saha, B.Tech. Program Head students for their active participation. Prof. S. Moulick, Dean welcomed and thanked Prof. Mr. Mrutyunjay Ray, Deputy Director, Corporate Relations and Mr. Priyadarshi Biswal, Dean, CAAS for their whole-hearted cooperation. Prof. B. G. Mohapatra, Director, Consultancy Services praised the students for their curiosity regarding careers. Mr. Mrutyunjay Ray and Mr. Priyadarshi Biswal suggested such activities be conducted at regular intervals to ignite the minds of students. The inaugural event ended with vote of thanks by Prof. D. K. Bera, Associate Dean, T&P, SCE.

Speaking at the first session, Prof. D. R. Biswal explained the opportunities and information for Civil Engineering graduates regarding Govt. jobs and PSUs. He informed about examinations like IES and GATE through which open various job openings. The presentation ended with a few questions from the students. In his talk, Dr. Priyadarshi Biswal emphasized on placement preparedness. He discussed the importance of multi-disciplinary knowledge in the 21st century. Prof. D. K. Bera talked in detail about the core companies that visit the school every year for recruitment of students. Prof. Mohibullah stressed upon the importance of core domain knowledge for increasing the chances of recruitment.

In his talk at the second session, Prof. Mohibullah explained the role of summer internships in shaping the career of civil engineering students. He also discussed about the previous internships conducted by SCE. The next lecture was presented by Prof. Kundan Samal and Prof. J. P. Padhi. Prof. K. Samal explained about higher studies abroad including the guidelines of various exams like GRE, TOEFL, IELTS, etc. Prof. J. P. Padhi elaborated about different scholarships for masters abroad. Prof. Padhi also explained the various Honours programs available for 7th sem students. The final talk of the session stressed on entrepreneurship and KIIT-TBI. Ms. Surekha Routray detailed on KIIT TBI, its aim and functionalities. A detailed talk on entrepreneurship options in Civil Engineering was delivered by Prof. P. K. Acharya.

The talks were followed by a general discussion and QA session. The workshop ended with a vote of thanks by Saswat Mohapatra, B.Tech. student, SCE.
