KIIT School of Civil Engineering Organizes Orientation Program for B. Tech. 3rd Semester Students

KIIT School of Civil Engineering organized an Orientation Program for 3rd Semester B. Tech. students (Lateral Entry) on 13th September 2021 through zoom platform. The objective of the program was to inform the students about various facets of Civil Engineering and expose them to various activities that are conducted in the school to benefit them.

Prof. S. Moulick, Dean, SCE welcomed the students to the orientation program and briefed about various activities like course curriculum, B.Tech. projects, research and consultancies, choice-based learning system, NSS, student technical chapters, etc. Prof. A. K. Pani, B.Tech. Program Coordinator, and Prof. P. C. Saha, B.Tech. Program Head explained about the course curriculum, the course structure and also about the choice-based learning system; viz. minor-major and honours concept. Prof. M. Mohanty and Prof. I. Mohanty, Faculty Coordinators for B.Tech. Project detailed about the structure of project; viz. minor project (6th Semester), project-I (7th Semester) and project-II (8th Semester) and also explained the importance of the project along with value-additions like publications and participation in national level technical events.

Prof. N. C. Moharana, Deputy CoE, SCE elucidated briefly on the exam pattern, while Prof. J. P. Padhi, PG&R Program Head discussed the importance of research, publications, research projects and scope for higher studies in foreign countries. Prof. S. Nanda’s addressed students regarding various consultancy works that the school has undertaken over the years. Prof. D.R. Biswal talked about various job opportunities in Civil Engineering as well as explained about various preparation courses like GATE that the School is imparting. Prof. D. K. Bera, Associate Dean, T&P shared about various industry electives being conducted with the collaboration with industries.

Prof. Mohibullah detailed about the importance of summer internships and about the online courses developed by the school for enhancing employment skills. Prof. P. K. Acharya highlighted the importance of entrepreneurship with the help of real life examples. This was followed by description of various student chapters like ASCE, ICE-UK, ISTE, etc. and its functioning by Prof. K.P. Samal, Faculty Coordinator of KIIT Society of Civil Engineers. Prof. T. Mohanty and Prof. S. R. Samal described the functioning of NCC and NSS respectively along with details of selection procedure, the importance, and the activities conducted by them. The event ended with a vote of thanks by Prof. S. Sarkar.
