KIIT SCE NSS Bureau Organizes Webinar on ‘Cancer Awareness’

The ‘NSS Builders’, School of Civil Engineering, KIIT Deemed to be University organized a cancer awareness programme on 7th November 2020. Speaking at the online event, the invited speaker, Dr. Humshika Samantray, an alumna of KIMS and Resident Medical Officer, SUM Ultimate Medicare, provided a detailed knowledge on cancer, its causes, symptoms as well as preventive measures.

It is important to spread awareness about cancer in the population as it has become a leading cause of death in India as well as the entire world, she said. She discussed causes, symptoms and ways to combat breast cancer, cervical cancer and lungs cancer, which are the most common types of cancer. Alcohol and tobacco consumption are the biggest risk factors, Dr. Samantray stated, while recommending healthy lifestyle, exercise, regular health check up and screening for early detection. She also answered a few questions regarding the disease by the volunteers.

Speaking on the occasion, Prof. Kajal Parashar, Programme Coordinator, KIIT NSS Bureau appreciated the efforts of the volunteers and expressed her gratitude to the invited speaker. Plans of setting up mobile vans (Mammo vans) by NSS were discussed. Prof. Gaurav Udgata, Program Officer introduced the guest speaker, while Prof. Satya Ranjan Samal, Program Officer, SCE proposed the vote of thanks. The online event was attended by NSS volunteers of KIIT School of CivilEngineering along with a few faculty members.

The volunteers of the NSS Bureau of KIIT School of Civil Engineering expressed gratitude to Prof. Achyuta Samanta, Founder, KIIT & KISS; Prof. Hrushikesha Mohanty, Vice Chancellor, KIIT; Prof. Sasmita Samanta, Pro Vice Chancellor; Dr. Sanjib Moulick, Dean SCE and Prof. Kajal Parashar for their constant support and guidance.
