International Conference on “Recent Developments in Sustainable Infrastructure”

The inaugural function of International Conference on “Recent Developments in Sustainable Infrastructure (Research & Practices)” (ICRDSI 2020) was held on 19th December 2020 on hybrid mode. The function was attended by eminent persons from government sector, academia and industry, including many foreign delegates. Representatives of several sponsoring companies also participated.

Inaugurating the conference, Shri Dharmananda Sarangi, Additional Director General (S&R), R&B, Ministry of Road Transport & Highways (MORTH), Govt. of India underscored the need for a sustainable ecosystem for a better future of coming generations. He discussed the use of sustainable materials like geo-synthetics for design and development of infrastructure. The need of the hour is to continue the progress, while, at the same time, protect the resources for future generations, he said. Appreciating efforts of KIIT and KISS to address the societal issues, he praised Prof. Achyuta Samanta, Founder as a great humanitarian, entrepreneur and parliamentarian.

Speaking on the occasion, Prof. Jean-Louis Roubaty, Professor (Environmental Engineering), Paris-Diderot University Consultant (Scientific adviser for a major environmental worldwide leader), French Government stressed on the importance of air quality mainly during the Covid-19 pandemic. He explained that along with masks and vaccines , a good environment with least pollution is necessary for the wellbeing of human beings.

Prof. Hrushikesha Mohanty, Chancellor, KIIT Deemed to be University pointed out the sustainability of old monuments, while calling for research in this area. He emphasized the effective use of IT in creation of sustainable infrastructure. Prof. Mohanty appreciated the School’s effort to organize the international conference.

Earlier, in his welcome address, Prof. B. G. Mohapatra, Organizing Chairman, provided a brief overview of the successful growth of the conference, which commenced in 2019. Most of the peer reviewed papers of ICRDSI-2019 were published as Scopus indexed book chapters by Springer Nature. This resulted in an overwhelming response and the conference received quality manuscripts from across the globe in ICRDSI-2020, where presentation of the papers are distributed in 23 technical sessions in addition to five keynote lecture sessions, he stated.

Prof. S. Moulick, Dean, School of Civil Engineering, KIIT-DU introduced KIIT and KISS as well as achievements of KIIT School of Civil Engineering to the participants.

The three-day meet is focusing on sustainability of Civil Engineering Practices. Seven specific themes viz. (i) Blended Technologies in Civil Engineering, (ii) Sustainability in Geotechnical Engineering, (iii) Sustainability in Transportation System, (iv) Sustainability in Environmental Engineering, (v) Sustainability in Water Resources Management, (vi)Sustainability in Structural Engineering, and (vii) Sustainability in Construction Management have been designed for a thorough discussion and inception of new knowledge.

Dr. Satyajeet Nanda, Organizing Secretary proposed the vote of thanks. He expressed his gratitude to Springer Nature Singapore Pte Ltd. for the acceptance of the proposal to publish select proceedings of the conference.
