Mathematics Training and Talent Search Program Held at KIIT School of Applied Sciences

The Department of Mathematics, School of Applied Sciences, KIIT Deemed to be University, successfully organized the one-month Mathematics Training and Talent Search (MTTS 2025 – Level O) program from May 26 to June 21, 2025. The program was inaugurated in the presence of Prof. J. R. Mohanty, Registrar, KIIT-DU; Prof. Bhaba K. Sharma (IIT Guwahati and Academic Coordinator of MTTS 2025); Prof. Sudarsan Nanda; Prof. Prasanta Rath, Dean, School of Applied Sciences; and Prof. Mrutyunjay Das, Associate Dean, Department of Mathematics.

Conducted under the aegis of the MTTS Trust, Hyderabad, and supported by the National Board for Higher Mathematics (NBHM), Department of Atomic Energy (DAE), Government of India, the program aimed to identify and nurture mathematical talent at the undergraduate level. This year, 40 meritorious students from 13 different states were selected through a rigorous national selection process.

Throughout the duration of the program, students were hosted on the KIIT campus and trained by eminent mathematicians, including Prof. Bhaba K. Sharma (IIT Guwahati), Prof. Arindama Singh (IIT Madras), Prof. Uday Shankar Chakraborty (Assam University, Silchar), Prof. Gautam Kalita (Bhattadev University, Assam), and Prof. Somasundaram (Retd., MS University, Tirunelveli).

In addition, a team of dedicated mentors provided consistent academic support. These included: Dr. Oorna Mitra (IISER Kolkata); Dr. Niraj Sapkota (Sikkim Manipal Institute of Technology); Mr. Smruti Ranjan Sahoo (BJB College, Bhubaneswar); Dr. Swati Yadav (IIT Bhilai); Dr. Pankaj Gautam (IIT Roorkee). Faculty members from the Department of Mathematics, KIIT, Dr. Abhijit Sutradhar and Dr. Manas Ranjan Mahapatra, served as the local coordinators for the event. A campus tour and an excursion to the Konark Sun Temple were also arranged for the participants.

The valedictory session on June 21, 2025, marked the successful conclusion of the event. It featured reflective and inspiring talks by Prof. SomasundaramProf. Sudarshan NandaProf. Mrutyunjay Dasand Prof. Bhaba K. Sarma. Participants shared heartfelt testimonials about their enriching experiences at KIIT.
