State level one-day Seminar was organised by Kalinga Institute of Nursing Sciences in association with SOMI, India on theme “Caring for mothers & their newborns” on 19/11/2016 at KINS, KIIT. The Programme was inaugurated with lighting the lamp by Prof. Amrita Lenka, Principal, CON, KINS, Prof. (Dr) T.M. Mohapatra, Pro VC,(R & D) KIMS, Prof.(Dr) P. Mukherjee, Director, O&G and Pediatrics, Prof. (Dr) S.C Dash, Emeritus Professor, Prof (Dr) S.K Rath , HOD, O&G, PBMH, Shri Satyabrat Das, Director, Publication, Documentation, KIIT. Registration was started at 9am with 200 participants from 8 nursing institutes of Odisha along with KINS & KIMS staff members. The Seminar was inaugurated sharp at 10.30 am with lighting the lamp near Lord Jagannath followed by a marvellous welcome song by B,sc 3rd year students. Prof Amrita Lenka, Principal, KINS delivered welcome address to the participants. Inaugural address was delivered by Prof. (Dr) T.M. Mohapatra, Pro VC,(R & D) KIMS followed by Prof.(Dr) P. Mukherjee, Director, O&G and Pediatrics, Prof. (Dr) S.C Dash, Emeritus Professor, Prof (Dr) S.K Rath , HOD, O&G, PBMH. Mr R. Ashokan, Asso Pofessor, KINS delivered vote of thanks for this inaugural session of State level one-day Seminar.

Scientific session was started after tea break at 11.15am. The first speaker Dr. Krishna Priyambada, Asst. Professor, Dept of O&G, PBMH, KIMS orated on ‘Birth planning for safety & health of mother & babies’. After presentation discussion was open to the floor. Next speaker Prof. Niyati Das, HOD, Dept of Paediatric Nursing discussed on “Newborn skin care module”.

Post launch session was conducted by third speaker of seminar Mrs Geetarani Nayak, Asso Professor, Dept of paediatric nursing, SUM Nursing College, SOA University discussed on “Newborn skin care module”. Then Mrs Dharitri Swain, Asst. Professor, College of Nursing AIIMS, Bhubaneswar delivered her talk on “Opportunities & challenges teachers face and discussed best practices for overcoming obstacles”. Last esteemed speaker of Seminar was Prof. Anusuya Pattnaik, Principal (CON) DRIEMS, Cuttack, who highlighted on “Monitoring & mentoring ASHAs for continued care of newborn at home.” One-day seminar was sponsored by Johnson & Jhonson. Seminar participation certificates were distributed to all the participants of 8 Nursing institutions. Mrs N. Sadhana Priyadarshini, Tutor KINS offered cordial vote of thanks to all participants of one-day seminar and the seminar was completed at 6pm successfully.
