KINS Organizes National e-Conference on ‘Emerging Trends, Career Opportunities and Current Practices in Nursing’

The Department of Medical Surgical Nursing, Kalinga Institute of Nursing Sciences organized a two-day National e-Conference on the theme “Emerging Trends, Career Opportunities and Current Practices in Nursing” from 17th to 18th Sept. 2020 on virtual platform.

The e-conference aimed to improve the outlook and re-orient the participants on the latest innovative changes & challenges in the nursing professional career. Prof. (Mrs.) Amarita Lenka, Principal, KINS conceptualized the e-conference, including selection of its theme, topics and eminent speakers of national repute along with speakers from Dept. of MSN, KINS, KIIT-DU. Welcoming the speakers & participants on the inaugural day, Prof. Lenka traced the evolution of the nursing profession for the past 30-40 years.

Mr. Rajesh Kumar Sharma, Associate Professor, Swami Rama Himalayan University, Dehradun delivered a talk on “Virtual World for Nursing Care”. He explained the virtual tools and apps devised to supplement the existing health care system along with issues perpetuating in virtual patient care with videos. In a session on “Developing Assertiveness among Student Nurses”, Dr. L. Gopichandran, Associate Professor, AIIMS, New Delhi elaborated on the concept by highlighting assertive communication skills.

Speaking at the third session on “Complex Care Management by Nursing Personnel”, Mr. R. Asokan, Associate Professor, KINS reflected on various complex care models and designs with various case scenarios. The last session was delivered by Mr. Chandan Pradhan, Asst. Prof., KINS on “Transforming Nursing Practice: Barriers and Solutions”. He aptly described the transformations of the Healthcare Industry with challenges faced and strategies undertaken to resolve it. 

The first day of the National e-Conference concluded with three oral paper presentations followed by virtual discussions under the chairmanship of Prof. Lenka and Mrs. Kulumina Dash, Programme coordinator, KINS.

On the second day, Dr. Suresh K Sharma, Professor & Principal, CON, AIIMS, Rishikesh gave an oration on the topic “Developing a New Generation of Nurse Entrepreneurs”. Dr. Muthuvenkatachalam Srinivasan, Associate Professor, CON, AIIMS, New Delhi spoke on the burning issue, “Importance of a Culturally Diverse Nursing Workforce”. Earlier, the speakers were introduced to the participants by Mrs. Sanjukta Dixit, Tutor KINS.

Mrs. Nibedita Mohanty, Asst. Professor, KINS, KIIT (DU) presented her talk on “Current Trends in Nursing Care for 2020”, while Mrs. Minati Das, Asst. Professor, KINS, KIIT-DU, spoke on “Current Issues in Nursing Care”. There were 5 oral paper presentations conducted under the chairmanship of Dr. Muthuvenkatachalam Srinivasan, Associate Professor, CON, AIIMS, New Delhi and Mrs. Kalyani Rath Associate Professor, KINS, KIIT-DU.

The vote of thanks was proposed by Mrs. Angel Merry Paul Dani, Tutor KINS, KIIT-DU. As many as 250 participants from east Africa, Nigeria, Egypt as well as from different parts of India joined the conference and made it a successful one.
