KINS Organizes Lamp Lighting and Oath Taking Ceremony A thousand lights but nothing shines brighter than you, burning like the sun but caring like the rain too.

Being a nurse is the beacon of light in someone’s darkness. With the aim to encourage the students to enter into the profession, Kalinga Institute of Nursing Sciences (KINS), KIIT-DU organized lamp lighting and  oath taking ceremony for both B.Sc. Nursing and GNM (2019 and 2020 admitted batches) students on 13th November 2021. Lamp lighting ceremony is an auspicious day for every nurse’s life. It has a reference to Miss Florence Nightingale, “The lady with Lamp”, who is the founder of modern nursing.

The program started with lighting the lamp by the invited and esteemed dignitaries – Major General, VSM, Dr. P. K. Pattanaik, Director General, School of Medicine; Brigadier Dr. A. P. Mohanty, Principal, KIMS; Prof. (Mrs.) Niyati Das, Principal, KINS; Prof. (Mrs.) Kalyani Rath, Vice Principal; Mrs. Susamma Sahu, NS, KIMS Hospital; and Mrs. M. Amrita Gouri, Additional NS.

Speaking at the ceremony, Major General (Dr.) P. K. Pattanaik said, “God can’t be everywhere, so he created mothers and as mothers could not be everywhere so he created nurses”. He motivated students to keep a big smile on their face and also reflect that smile on their eyes. Brigadier Dr. A. P. Mohanty bessed the students and told them to learn maximum during their training period and be a responsible nurse in future.

Addressing the students, Prof. (Mrs.) Niyati Das stressed on the contribution of Florence Nightingale to the nursing field. She congratulated the budding nurses and wished them good luck for their future. Mrs. Susamma Sahu enlightened about the nurse’s role in providing care to the patients. She also spoke about the importance of lamp lighting ceremonies in the nursing profession. Mrs. M. Amrita Gouri encouraged students to excel in their field and bring name and fame to the institution.

After lamp lighting, the Nightingale Pledge was administered to students by Prof. (Mrs.) Kalyni Rath. Prof. (Mr.) R. Asokan, Prof. (Mrs.) Anusuya Patnaik and Mrs. Minati Das were present on the occasion. A colourful cultural program was presented by B.Sc Nursing 4th year students, in which they portrayed a role play on Florence Nightingale life history. The program was moderated by Miss Hrishita Bera and Miss Ayishijyoti Sikdar. Total 273 students took oath on the occasion. The vote of thanks was proposed by Mrs. Sanjukta Dixit, Tutor, KINS.
