KINS NSS Unit Celebrates “Kids Smile Day” at Orphanage

The NSS Wing of Kalinga Institute of Nursing Sciences (KINS) celebrated the “Kids Smile Day” at Basundhara, an orphanage in Bidanasi, Cuttack on 31st January 2022. The celebration, which had “Enhancing This World, One Smile” as its motto, aimed to motivate students to come forward for such kids who have not got the opportunity to know the world properly.

The event was conducted by NSS volunteers of B.Sc. Nursing, Ms. Supriya Singh Chandel (3rd year), Ms. Rashmita Swain (3rd year), Mr. Sunil Kumar Sahoo (3rd year), Ms. Sonali Subhalaxmi (2nd year) and Ms. Laxmipriya Behera (2nd year) under the mentorship of Ms. Daini Sunita, PO, KINS NSS Unit and Ms. Anita Panigrahi, PO, KINS NSS Unit. Around 90 kids of the orphanage, five caregivers and five NSS volunteers with two faculty members participated in the event and spent time with the kids.

The volunteers demonstrated the basic first aid care for the children in case of any injury (stop bleeding and bandaging), choking (Heimlich maneuver procedure) and fever (cold sponging) followed by personal hygiene with hand washing practice. A platform was provided to the children where they showcased their talent like poem recitation, dance, singing, etc. and volunteers joined in entertainment with kids. Healthy snacks were also arranged for the children.

The volunteers expressed special thanks to Dr. Kajal Parashar, Program Coordinator, KIIT NSS Bureau and for her motivation and Dr. Niyati Das, Principal, KINS for her cooperation to make the event successful.
