KINS Celebrates International Women’s Day
Kalinga Institute of Nursing Sciences (KINS), KIIT Deemed to be University celebrated International Women’s Day on 8th March 2021. Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Sasmita Samanta, Pro-Vice-Chancellor, KIIT-DU elaborated on the role and contribution of women in empowering the world. “Following the vision of Dr. Achutya Samanta, Founder, KIIT & KISS, KIIT Group of Institutions has empowered all its women employees. On the occasion of International Women’s Day, he has announced a free Covid vaccine for all women staff”, she stated.
Dr. Sucheta Priyabadini, Director, Student Counselling, KIIT said, women empowerment is about empowering self and can be brought about by realising one’s potential. Dr. Kajal Parashar, Associate Professor, KIIT School of Applied Sciences & Program Coordinator, NSS Bureau, KIIT-DU elaborated on the innate qualities of women like empathy, compassion and organised behaviour responsible for building a stronger world. Dr. Shyam Sundar Behura, Deputy Director, Student Services, KIIT focussed on gender discrimination and strategies to abolish it.
Earlier, the program commenced with the welcome address by Prof. (Mrs.) A. Lenka, Principal, KINS. Unveiling the theme, ‘Choose to Challenge’, she spoke on women’s role in the society and empowerment of women.
A panel discussion was conducted by M.Sc. Nursing 1st year students to create awareness amongst the audience regarding people’s perception of women in the society, present scenario of women and women leaders of the world. Ms. Sramana Dey moderated the Panel discussion, which had Aishwarya Sahoo, Thongram, Rabina Devi, Disha Sinha and Anwesha Ghara as the panellists. A mesmerising role play was enacted by M.Sc. Nursing 1st year students on women’s empowerment. Mrs. Nibedita Mohanty, Assistant Professor, KINS proposed the vote of thanks. The entire program, which was attended by 300 participants, was anchored by Mrs. Nilam Mishra, 1styear M.Sc. Nursing student.
