The graduation ceremony for the first batch of the Japan Ready-Industry Ready (JR-IR) training program in Japanese Language Proficiency for students of Kalinga Institute of Nursing Sciences (KINS) was organized on 28th June 2024 by the Department of Language & Literature, KIIT-DU. The event was graced by Ambassador Debraj Pradhan, DG-IRO, KIIT-DU; Prof. Niyati Das, Principal, KINS; Ms. Mami Kimura, Japanese language teacher; and Mr. Sameer Kumar Das, Associate Dean, Department of Language & Literature.

The first batch of the JR-IR training program in Japanese language for nursing students started this year on 12th January. After 120 hours of rigorous training over six months under native teacher Ms. Mami Kimura, 23 students successfully completed the course. They were awarded certificates at the graduation ceremony. All of the graduating students were traditionally dressed in Japanese Yukata and Happi for the ceremony. Students shared their positive experiences about the training program, and a video presentation compiling memorable moments and the journey of learning was presented by the teacher.

The Japan Ready-Industry Ready (JR-IR) training program for promoting the study of Japanese language and culture at KIIT was initiated in 2021 with the guidance of the Ministry of External Affairs and the Embassy of Japan under the aegis of the India-Japan bilateral agreement. This program aims to cater to the skill development and human resource requirements of both countries. The JR-IR program intends to make students bilingual technical evangelists, enabling them to go to Japan or work in Japanese or Japan-related organizations in India.

JR-IR training is provided by native Japanese language teacher Ms. Kimura, who is a Japan Overseas Cooperation Volunteer (JOCV) from the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) to KIIT for the next two years.
