International Nurses Day was celebrated on 12th May 2025 by the Kalinga Institute of Nursing Sciences (KINS). Addressing an event organized on the occasion, Founder of KIIT, KISS, and KIMS Dr. Achyuta Samanta said that nurses are the epitome of service. He emphasized the crucial role that nurses play in the healthcare sector, stating that in a patient’s recovery, the role of a nurse is often even more significant than that of a doctor. A patient can heal through the compassionate touch and dedicated care of a nurse. Hence, nurses must always uphold an attitude of empathy and dedication towards patients.

Dr. Samanta encouraged all nurses to work with a spirit of selfless service and dedication. He said that the students’ enthusiasm to enroll in the nursing course reflects their innate spirit of service and commitment. With the strong infrastructure and vast opportunities for practical exposure at KIMS, KINS students can establish themselves in the nursing profession.

Prof. Saranjit Singh, Vice-Chancellor of KIIT, highlighted the theme of this year’s International Nurses Day, “Our Nurses. Our Future. Caring for nurses strengthens economies”. He stated that proper nursing care not only benefits patients but also strengthens the financial health of healthcare institutions. Therefore, the physical and mental well-being of nurses should always be a priority.

Dr. CBK Mohanty, Pro-Vice-Chancellor, School of Medicine, KIIT, described nurses as the vital link between doctors and patients. He noted that among the employees working in healthcare institutions, nurses make up the largest group. Without nurses, it would be impossible to deliver healthcare services effectively.

Among others present on the occasion were Prof. Dr. RC Das, Principal of KIMS; Dr. Manas Ranjan Behera, Medical Superintendent of KIMS; Brigadier Dr. Ambika Prasad Mohanty, Director of the Schools of Nursing, Allied Sciences, Pharmacy, and Physiotherapy; and Prof. J.R. Mohanty, Registrar of KIIT DU.

At the event, Prof. Dr. Niyati Das, Principal of KINS, delivered the welcome address, while Ms. Geetanjali Mohanta, Nursing Superintendent at KIMS, offered the vote of thanks. The annual souvenir of KINS, ‘KARA’, was also unveiled by the dignitaries on this occasion.
