Department of Community Health Nursing, KINS Organizes a Program on “Healthy Beginning, Hopeful Future,”

To commemorate World Health Day 2025, the Department of Community Health Nursing, Kalinga Institute of Nursing Sciences (KINS) organized a vibrant program on 7th April 2025, in alignment with the WHO theme “Healthy Beginning, Hopeful Future,” with a special focus on global action for maternal and child health as a foundation for a sustainable and healthy future.

The program commenced with a welcome address by Dr. Niyati Das, Principal, KINS. She expressed her appreciation for the students’ involvement and emphasized the responsibility of healthcare professionals in promoting maternal and child well-being. Dr. Anasuya Pattnayak, Head of the Department of Community Health Nursing, unfolded the theme of the day, explaining its global relevance and the role of community health nurses in shaping a healthier beginning for every child and mother. The keynote speaker and resource person, Mrs. Geetarani Nayak, Assistant Professor, AIIMS, delivered an enlightening session on the theme “Healthy Beginning, Hopeful Future – Global Action for Maternal and Child Health.” Her talk focused on evidence-based strategies, global policies, and practical nursing interventions that can bring transformative change in maternal and child health outcomes. She is a state level trainer for Basic NRP First Golden Minute project. She has been awarded with Dr. Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan Life Time Achievement National Award by IRDP group of Journals, Chennai.

As part of the celebration, several student-centered competitions were held to enhance engagement and learning:

1.Extempore Speech Competition: 15 students participated, delivering spontaneous speeches related to maternal and child health. The judges Mrs. Ritika Srivastav, Soft Skill & Corporate Trainer, Bhubaneswar and Mr. Sameer Kumar Das, Associate Dean, School of Liberal Studies, KIIT-DU appreciated students for their outstanding articulation and critical thinking. Kritika Sah, M.Sc. Nursing 1st year won the 1st prize, Manaswini Nanda, GNM 2nd year won 2nd prize and Ms. Bibhusmita Singh Samanta, B.Sc. Nursing, 7thSem won 3rd Prize.

  1. Quiz Competition: From 230 students in the screening round, five groups (each with one student) advanced to the final round. The winners were awarded Gold, Silver and Bronze medals along with certificates. The quiz tested their grasp on World Health Day themes, maternal-child health, and public health initiatives.
  2. Model Exhibition: An exhibition of innovative health models was also conducted by students, focusing on maternal and child health promotion, nutrition, antenatal care, immunization, and safe childbirth practices. The best three models were selected by Dr. Isha Mohapatra, Associate Professor, Dept of Community Medicine & Mrs. Purnima Sahoo, Associate Professor based on creativity, scientific relevance, and presentation. Winners received certificates and trophies.

The celebration concluded with a Vote of Thanks delivered by Mrs. Soumya Sonalika, Associate Professor, Department of Community Health Nursing. She expressed gratitude to the Guest Speaker, faculty members, organizing team, and all the enthusiastic student participants who contributed to the program’s success. The event proved to be an inspiring platform for promoting awareness, advocacy, and action toward achieving a healthier beginning and a hopeful future for all mothers and children.
