75th Independence Day KSCE Organizes University Level Elocution Contest

On the occasion of 75th Independence Day, KIIT School of Commerce & Economics (KSCE) organized a University Level Elocution contest among the students of KIIT Deemed to be University, through online mode. More than 100 participants from KIIT School of Commerce, KIIT Law School, KIIT School of Management, KIIT School of Computer Engineering, KIIT School of Electrical Engineering and Kalinga Institute of Dental Sciences registered for the competition, which was conducted in two rounds.

The topic of the first round, conducted on 13th August 2021, was “Is It the India Our Freedom Fighters Dreamt of?”. A fervent debate both for and against the motion was put forward by the students. Prof. Tanmoy Putatunda, KIIT School of Languages; Prof. Ganesh Prasad Panda, Department of Commerce, S G College, Jajpur; Prof. Debanjali Roy, KIIT School of Languages; & Prof. Sakti Ranjan Dash, Berhampur University acted as the Judges for the event and selected 13 participants for the final round of the competition.

The final round was organized on 15th August 2021. Considering the theme of the celebration of 75th Independence Day, the topic for the Final Round was Should Glory of Sanatan Bharat & the Glow of Modern India Go Side by Side?”. All the thirteen participants unanimously agreed to the fact that both the heritage of past and aspiration of the future should go hand in hand, while some criticized the growing fundamentalist attitude among some sections of Indian society expressing their concern that it may lead to jingoism. Prof. Biswajeet Das, Director, KIIT School of Languages; Prof. Damodar Jena, KIIT School of Rural Management; and Prof. Sanjeeb K Jena, Associate Professor, Rajiv Gandhi Central University, Arunachal Pradesh were the Judges for the competition. Prof. Das congratulated all the finalists for the wonderful intellectual discourse. Expressing his joy, Prof. Damodar Jena said that he is proud that the young generation knows its glorious past and wishes to glorify its future. He also congratulated KSCE for the beautiful arrangement of the event.

Addressing the participants and audience, Prof. Jayanta Kumar Parida, Director, KSCE spoke about how the School has been regularly conducting such extra-curricular activities even during the pandemic. He thanked the organizing team for the event and congratulated the winners.

The result of the Competition was declared immediately. Mr. Abinash Jena of KIIT Law School secured the 2nd Runner Up prize, while Ms. Sanskruti Swarekha of KIIT School of Commerce & Economics and Ms. Huma Jamal of KIIT School of Management shared the 1st Runner Up position. Ms. Abhipsa Mohapatra of KIIT Law School became the Winner of KSCE Elocution Contest 2021. The winner, 1st runner up and 2nd runner up bagged cash prizes of Rs. 5000/-, Rs. 3000 and Rs. 2000 respectively.
