Prabhu Chawla Interacts with Students at KIIT School of Mass Communication

Mr. Prabhu Chawla, a seasoned journalist and Editorial Director of The New Indian Express, addressed the students of KIIT School of Mass Communication on 21st February, 2023, shedding light on the various prospects and challenges in the field of journalism. The session was aimed at educating and inspiring the young minds to pursue a career in journalism.

Mr. Chawla spoke on how the journalism industry is changing and how it has adjusted to the shifting media landscape. He underlined the need of digital literacy and the necessity for journalists to be knowledgeable about cutting-edge technology in order to thrive in the field.

The veteran journalist also spoke about the various job opportunities available in the field, including print, broadcast, and digital journalism. He encouraged the students to be proactive in their job search and to take advantage of the various internships and mentorship programs available.

Moreover, Mr. Chawla also discussed the challenges that today’s journalists must overcome, such as the growth of fake news and the requirement that they uphold moral standards in their reporting. He emphasised the value of journalistic honesty and how important it is in influencing public opinion.

The session ended with a Q&A session, where the students were able to ask Mr. Chawla about his experiences and gain valuable insights into the world of journalism.

The session was well-received by the students, who were grateful for the opportunity to learn from such a leading journalist. The students said that the session had given them a better understanding of the field of journalism and the skills required to succeed in the industry.

The students left the workshop feeling inspired and motivated, ready to start down the path of a journalistic profession. The event was organised by KIIT School of Mass Communication and supported by KIIT Public Relations Department. Aditi Ranjan, a Second Semester Master of Communication and Journalism (MCJ) proposed the vote of thanks.  At the end, Mr. Chwala expressed his gratitude and praised the efforts of founder Dr Achyuta Samanta for establishing this wonderful institution.
