KSMC Faculty Conducts Session on “Research for Content Creation”

Dr. Bidu Bhusan Dash, Assistant Professor and Course Coordinator, School of Mass Communication, KIIT Deemed to be University (KSMC) was invited as an expert to a webinar organised by the Ministry of Information & Broadcasting (MIB), Government of India in partnership with OneWorld Foundation India (One World) on 27th  September 2021. On behalf of the MIB, One World is organising a series of webinars from 27th  to 29th September 2021 for existing Community Radio Stations (CRSs) run by Krishi Vigyan Kendras (KVKs), Agricultural Universities and Non-Government Organisations (NGOs) catering to farmer community.

Dr. Dash shared his experiential learning and expertise about the sector and addressed the topic “Research for Content Creation”. The participants gained insights regarding the nuances of radio programme production, community engagement enhancement, and sustainable community radio station operations.

Dr. Dash spoke on understanding community and CRSs, CRS ownership patterns, programme ideation, content creation process, and sustainable ways of engaging with the community. He also emphasized on moving from extension to communication via dialogic and participatory approaches that boost the inclusion of people’s voices in programme production through proper research. He particularly highlighted, “it can only be possible, when we will do more community and less radio”.

The session was chaired by Mr. Rajiv Tikoo, Member of Board of Governors, OneWorld and moderated by Ms Poonam Shrivastava, Project Associate, OneWorld. More than 60 community radio representatives from across India participated in the webinar.
