KIIT Law School Organizes First Judges’ Lecture

The first lecture under the Judges’ Lecture Series, organized by KIIT Law School (KLS), was delivered by Hon’ble Mr. Justice Pinaki Chandra Ghose, Chairperson, Lokpal of India on 26th March 2022.

Speaking on the subject ‘Role and Significance of Lokpal in India’, Justice Ghose said, “Public has a greater role to curb corruption. We all have to change our mindsets. Corruption is just like a termite and we have to curb it. Such moral values should be embedded in our minds. Lokpal must be empowered to act against the menace of lobbying. It should also have the authority to deal with conflict of interest and matters related to whistleblowers”.

Lokpal is an anti-corruption authority that represents the public interest in the country. It consists of a chairperson and eight members, half of whom are judicial members. Justice Pinaki Chandra Ghose, a retired judge of the Supreme Court of India, was appointed as the first Chairman of Lokpal of India in 2019.

Justice Ghose exuded confidence about the future of the Lokpal in delivering justice to the public at large and sought the support of all stakeholders in this endeavor. In the interest of the public and to protect them from corrupt practices, Justice Ghose said, the Lokpal has to end unlawful activities in the real estate sector, especially during land mutations, and prevent bribes that run into billions of rupees in the transportation sector.

Expressing gratitude to Justice Ghose for delivering the lecture at KLS, Prof. Sasmita Samanta, Vice-Chancellor, KIIT-DU said that KIIT and KISS are committed to empowering future generations. Among others, Prof. (Dr.) Bhavani Prasad Panda, Director, KLS and Prof. (Dr.) Prafulla Chandra Mishra, Dean also spoke on the occasion.
