KIIT Law School Observes World Day Against Trafficking in Persons

KIIT Law School, in collaboration with the International Justice Mission (IJM) and Shram Bahini, observed the World Day Against Trafficking in Persons with a programme dedicated to strengthening efforts to combat human trafficking and bonded labour.

The event was graced by Shri Prithiviraj Harichandan, Hon’ble Minister of Law, Works & Excise, Government of Odisha, as the Chief Guest. Prof. (Dr.) Saranjit Singh, Vice Chancellor, KIIT-DU, and Prof. (Dr.) Raju K. D., Pro Vice Chancellor, also graced the occasion along with distinguished dignitaries from academia, government, the judiciary, and civil society.

The programme was coordinated by the Centre for Women and Gender Studies (CWGS), a student society of KIIT Law School, reflecting the institution’s commitment to promoting legal awareness and social justice.

A major highlight of the event was the launch of the book “Restored in Odisha” and the Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) for the Identification, Rescue and Rehabilitation of Bonded Labourers. These publications are expected to strengthen institutional mechanisms for victim identification, rescue, rehabilitation, and access to justice while supporting the effective implementation of laws relating to bonded labour and human trafficking.

The programme reaffirmed the collective commitment of government institutions, academia, civil society organisations, and legal professionals to protecting human dignity, safeguarding fundamental rights, and working towards the elimination of human trafficking.
