Hon’ble Mr. Justice Sanjeeb Kumar Panigrahi, Judge, High Court of Orissa called upon law students and young lawyers to be socially responsible citizens having sensitivity towards the environment. He was speaking at KIIT Law School (KLS) on the eve of the World Environment Day celebration on 4th June 2022. World Environment Day is celebrated every year on the 5th of June under the aegis of the United Nations to sensitize, encourage awareness, and lay down actions for the protection of the environment. This year’s theme of the celebration is “Living Sustainably in Harmony with Nature”.

The session was designed to get guidance and suggestions to make the teaching-learning process at Law School more sustainable keeping in mind the environment as well as the professional future of the budding lawyers. Justice Panigrahi not only showcased the whole ethos of environmentalism, but also the judicial approach that has shaped the discourse for us as of now. Though development and environment are poles apart, a harmonious union between the two is the need of the hour, he stated. And, being curators of future lawyers, it is our onerous responsibility to instill the mindset for coordinated action, he added.

The session was attended by research scholars and faculty members of KLS. It was coordinated under the patronage of Prof. (Dr.) Bhabani Prasad Panda, Director, KLS, and overall coordination of the event was done by Dr. Bishwa Kallyan Dash, Asst. Prof. (II), KLS.
