KSOM Organizes Online FDP on ‘Leadership – Gennext: Exerting Influence Not Authority’

KIIT School of Management (KSOM) organized a five-day Online Faculty Development Program (FDP) on ‘Leadership – Gen Next: Exerting Influence Not Authority’ from 13th -17th January 2021. The FDP, approved by ATAL, AICTE, Govt. of India, received an overwhelming response attracting more than 200 participants from across India from the field of pharmacy, medicine, biotech, engineering, management, etc.

The Program, which consisted of a total 15 sessions, aimed at providing opportunities to the participants to learn models and methodologies of leadership relevant to a wide spectrum. It aimed to equip teachers and participants from the corporate sector with managerial skills across a range of competencies. Eminent academicians, industry leaders, doctors and therapists were an important part of the workshop and provided insightful information on various subjects. The sessions were supplemented with polls, Q&A sessions, simulations, videos and activities conducted in different groups.

It was inaugurated on 12th January 2021 in the presence of Dr. Ranjit Nayak, Former World Bank staff and Chief Govt. Advisor to the Govt. of Macedonia on International and European Union Affair; Prof. Dr. Hrushikesha Mohanty, VC, KIIT-DU; Prof. Dr. Jyanaranjan Mohanty, Registrar; Dr. Saroj Mahapatra, Director, KSOM; and Dr. S. N. Misra, Dean.  

Appreciating KSOM for organizing the FDP, Dr. Ranjit Nayak shared his experience in diverse roles he held. He indulged the participants to ponder upon the skills, expertise and competencies that a leader requires to possess. Dr. Hrushikesha Mohanty mentioned the significance of leadership in every domain and how the meaning of leadership and roles could vary from person to person for the next generation. Dr. S. K. Mahapatra provided an overview of the Program, while Dr. S. N. Misra welcomed the delegates, participants and resource persons. Prof. Jynaranjan Mohanty also spoke at the inaugural session.

In his session on ‘Leadership exerting influence’, Dr. S. K. Mahapatra emphasized the importance of a leader and how the method of leading can influence the outcomes. Session-2 was addressed by Dr. Gourav Das, Laparoscopic & Bariatric Surgeon, AMRI, Utkal Hospital, Bhubaneswar. He addressed the issues faced by a leader in the healthcare services. Speaking at the last session of the first day, Dr. Shwetaleena Bidyadhar, SVP & Global Head, MPS Interactive, Mumbai inspired the audience to recognize the importance of Designing Hybrid Classrooms for GenNext, in the most facile manner.

Dr. Debjani Roy, Chief HR Officer, Mind Your Fleet; Dr. Raiguru Mangesh, Corporate Guru Founder, Twaran, Mumbai; and Mr. Jayanth Jayaprakash, Founder, Director & CVO, I2E Harmony Pvt. Ltd. addressed the participants on the second day of the FDP. Dr. Roy described the transformational leadership model in corporate. Dr. Mangesh talked about Neuro-Linguistic Leadership. Mr. Jayaprakash explained how design thinking is an essential component of leadership.    

On Day-3, Dr. Ashok K. Sar, Professor, KSOM took a session on ‘Leadership & Academic Alliances’. This was followed by a session by Prof. Sunil Sarangi from XLRI, Jamshedpur, who explained how leadership can influence without authority. In the last session of the day, Dr. S. N. Mishra drew the timeline of the facets of transformational leadership and shared his unforgettable experience with Dr. A. P. J. Abdul Kalam.

In the first session of Day-4, Dr. Mitali Das, Consultant Psychiatrist, Epworth, South Eastern Consulting Suites, Berwick & Monash Health Greater Melbourne, Australia deliberated on modern day stress. She suggested productive ways to reduce the stress and live a more fruitful life. Speaking next, Mr. Srimanta Panda, GM, Finance, NALCO delivered a presentation on the topic, ‘Leadership & Financial Planning’. Dr. Abha Mishra, UNDP Head, Bhubaneswar highlighted the role of social sector / NGOs in exerting influence and shaping leadership, in the last session of the day.

Session on ‘Stress Management through Music Therapy’ by Dr. Isa Mishra, Associate Professor, KSOM and Dr. Ipsita Nayak, Assistant Professor on the concluding day attracted a lot of enthusiasm from the attendees. Dr. Jayalaxmi Samal, Zonal Head, Bharatiya Yog Sansthan, Odisha and Assistant Professor, Management Studies, Sri Sri University, Cuttack revealed the evil of stress and the power of Yoga. The final session of the FDP was taken by Dr. Shikta Singh, Associate Professor, KSOM. She threw light on ‘DISC’- the way of describing the patterns in a person’s behavior and using that knowledge to predict how they are likely to act in the future.

The valedictory session was addressed by Mr. Suvasis Ghosh, Director & Head of Client Growth and Development; Dr. S. K. Mahapatra; Dr. S. N. Misra along with the faculty members, resource persons and participants. The Faculty Development Program (FDP) ended with a vote of thanks by Dr. Shikta Singh, FDP Convenor.
