KSOL Conducts Webinar on ‘Role of Independent Directors in Corporate Governance’

KIIT School of Law (KSOL) organized a Webinar on the “Role of Independent Directors in Corporate Governance” recently. The webinar was conducted as part of the Corporate Governance course at the School under the aegis of its Centre for Business and Commercial Laws (CBCL).

Gracing the webinar as the resource person, Mr. Puneet Bansal, General Counsel, Pidilite Industries Ltd. highlighted the critical role played by independent directors in adding value to a company, prominent among which is their role in supporting and enhancing the corporate governance structure within the organization. He deliberated on the importance of independence in discharging such functions, and how their non-partisan and objective approach towards governance was important in ensuring a stable and transparent functioning of the enterprise. The existing legal framework along with latest developments like the SEBI Consultation Paper on Regulation of Independent Directors, were also subject to discussion. The webinar also included an open discussion session wherein faculties and students interacted and exchanged their opinion with the resource person.

Mr. Bansal is a corporate counsel and company secretary with more than 25 years of experience in matters related to corporate governance, and has had multi-dimensional experience in various types of industrial organizations, including a very long stint at Aditya Birla Group.

The webinar was organised and coordinated under the guidance of Prof. (Dr.) Bhavani Prasad Panda, Director, KIIT School of Law. Prof. Sudipta De Sarkar, Associate Dean organized the session and coordinated with the resource person. The session was moderated by Prof. Pratiti Nayak and Prof. Amrit Subhadarshi, along with Prof. Ipsita Das on behalf of CBCL. Faculties and students of the School participated actively in the deliberations.
