Dr. Pramod Kumar Das, Assistant Professor (English), School of Languages, KIIT Deemed to be University, Bhubaneswar has contributed to National Translation Mission through publication of his translation of two Odia short stories in the Volume 15, Issue 2, 2021 edition of the prestigious “Translation Today”, a UGC- CARE listed journal published by Central Institute of Indian Languages, Mysore, Government of India.

Dr. Das has translated two Odia short stories titled “Dui Bandhunka Karamati” and “Namakarana” as “The Achievements of Two Friends” and “Naming Ceremony” respectively. The source text is originally written in Odia by Madhabananda Panda, an eminent writer of Children’s literature in Odisha. Its literary significance becomes ostensible from this remark of the Editor of the journal: “Another aspect that has been a focal area of Translation Today is the translation of children’s literature and the research works associated with it.”

Zeroing in on the pedagogical potential of these two translated stories, Dr. Das suggests in the translator’s “Note” how they can be used at different levels to teach different language skills like listening, speaking, reading, writing, etc. The learners will have the added advantage of understanding the cultural nuances and local flavour of both the source and target languages.

Prof. (Dr.) Beerendra Pandey, Dean and other faculty members of the KIIT School of Languages have congratulated Dr. Das on this significant contribution to the fields of Translation Studies and Children’s Literature.
