KSAC Organizes Flagship Event ‘Pratijja’ – The Asian Parliamentary Debate

‘Pratijja’, the Asian Parliamentary Debate, was organized by ‘Kronicle’, the Literary (Debating) Society, KIIT Student Activity Centre (KSAC) from 6th to 8th March 2021. The tournament followed the Asian Parliamentary Debating format. Teams of three debated on a variety of motions, ranging from international politics to feminism. They were marked by the adjudicators, who gave them feedback after the debate was done and were marked in turn by these teams, thus leading to a fair competition for both the debating teams as well as adjudicators.

A pre-event workshop was conducted on 4th March 2021 which was headed by one of the core adjudicators and focused on the basics of parliamentary debate in order to make the new participants familiar with the format. Teams for the elimination rounds of Quarters were selected following five rounds of debate on the first two days. The Quarter Finals, Semi Finals and Finals were held on the last day.

A total of 34 Teams and 51 Adjudicators from reputed Universities and Institutions from all over the country and abroad participated in the Debate. The Core Adjudicators were Suman Mitra, Government Law College, Mumbai; Aaryana Anand, Gujarat National Law University and Sayantan Bhattacharyya, Symbiosis Law School, Pune who were responsible for carrying out the proceedings.

The Asian Parliamentary Debate was won by the team from St. Stephen’s College, Delhi. The Runner up team was from Chanakya National Law University, PatnaThe Best Adjudicator was Altamash Kadir from Government Law College, Mumbai and the Second Best Adjudicator was Kartik Mathur from Symbiosis School of Economics, Pune.

The event was organized by Team Kronicle led by the Coordinators Anjay Sahoo and Prabhas Behura. Dr. Shyam Sundar Behura, Dy. Director, Student Services, KIIT expressed his happiness over the successful completion of the event and thanked the Organizing Team for taking Pratijja to the Global Level. Prof. Achyuta Samanta, Founder, KIIT & KISS appreciated the efforts of the Organizing committee to rope in reputed Institutions of the Country and also for making it global.
