World Philosophy Day Observed at KISS-DU

The School of Tribal Culture, Philosophy and Eco-Spiritualism (TCPE), KISS-DU organized a One-Day Seminar-cum-Observation of World Philosophy Day, sponsored by Indian Council of Philosophical Research (ICPR), Ministry of Education, New Delhi, on 4th January, 2023. The Inaugural Session was graced by Professor Deepak Kumar Behera, Vice Chancellor, KISS-DU; Professor S. C. Panigrahi, Professor Emeritus (Philosophy Programme); and Professor Harischandra Sahoo, Chair Professor Bhima Bhoi Research Chair.

Professor Rakesh Chandra, a well-known philosopher from Lucknow University, delivered a lecture on “Philosophy and Democracy”. Appreciating the initiatives of the Founder of KIIT & KISS Dr. Achyuta Samanta, Professor Chandra propounded that in order to make democracy a successful form of governance, one needs to practice philosophy like Dr. Samanta, who has been serving the world with his idea of the “Art of Giving.”

The second lecture titled “The Historical Development of Human Civilization’ was delivered by Professor Dhaneswar Sahoo, Former H.O.D. Philosophy, B.J.B (Autonomous) College, Bhubaneswar. The pre-lunch session concluded with Professor Deepak Kumar Behera’s presidential remarks and a vote of thanks by Dr. Ratnakar Mohapatra, Dean, School of TCPE.

The second half of the session, presided by Professor S. C. Panigrahi, featured lectures by two esteemed speakers, Professor Harischandra Sahoo and Dr. S. K. Kar. They spoke on “The Philosophy of Existentialism” and “Alternative Forms of Dialectics” respectively. Research scholars and Students from different schools of KISS-DU attended the event. More than 120 participants from all over the country joined the seminar, which was coordinated by Dr. Rajan and Dr. Malay Kumar Bhoi, Assistant Professor. Mr. Ramesh Panda, Faculty proposed the vote of thanks.
