KISS-DU Organizes Online Workshop on Awareness Programme on Cyber Security
The Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC), KISS-DU organized an ‘Online Workshop on Awareness of Cyber Security’ on 1st February, 2022 in collaboration with Indian Institute of Public Administration (IIPA), New Delhi. The programme was graced by key functionaries from KISS-DU and IIPA.
Delivering the welcome address, Professor Deepak Kumar Behera, Vice-Chancellor, KISS DU said, it is a wonderful beginning of a new journey with regard to the MoU signed between KISS-DU and IIPA and many more such kinds of activities shall be organized to make the MoU functional. He also apprised the august audience about the recent achievements of KISS-DU including relevance of the topic of the online workshop, mentioning thereby the significance and objectives of the topic. Professor Behera also thanked the Director General, IIPA for attending this online workshop.
In his inaugural address, Shri Surendra Nath Tripathi, IAS (Retd.), Director General, Indian Institute of Public Administration emphasized on the topic and the threats of cyber crime which has become a global issue in this new millennium. Talking on the concept of cyber security, he said that India is a country which has produced strong and dynamic IT professionals who have been working across the globe. India can become a thought as well as market leader in cyber security. Mentioning the new digital era and the its positive effects, he said that gradually we are moving towards a new world of Information Technology which necessitates inculcating IT skills for one and all so that many kinds of cyber-crimes can be avoided and it is all about knowledge which can bridge the gap. He concluded his talk by urging the participants to develop mindset, tool set and skill set in order to become successful in life. He thanked Dr. Achyuta Samanta, Founder, KIIT & KISS for his vision to transform the lives of the tribal children in particular by providing education and all other amenities. He also expressed his concern to organize many more programs in order to create a platform for exchange of knowledge between IIPA and KISS-DU.

Talking on the topic, the distinguished speaker, Dr. Surabhi Pandey, Area Head: Cyber Security and Data Analytics, IIPA set the pace of the session by touching upon the concept of internet frauds and security and brought to light the various issues faced by web users. Presenting some statistical data on the gravity of the issue, she said that 27 million Indian adults were victims of identity theft in the past 12 months and 52% of adults in the country do not know how to protect themselves from cyber-crime. She expressed her concern that India recorded 50,035 cases of cyber crime in 2020 with a surge in such offences over the previous year, as 578 incidents of “fake news on social media” were also reported. Dr. Pandey also discussed a case study of how a fake website fraud gang was busted by Delhi Police, Cyber Cell. She also presented some case studies on cyber hackers targeted to commit such crimes and sensitized on how to identify the fake applications. These days, the whole world is facing the pandemic situation for which the institutions across the globe are closed and online teaching has become a new phenomenon. Dr. Pandey shared some of the safety measures for online teaching and learning. During the lecture, Dr. Pandey gave some important cyber security tips.
