He delivered the lecture titled, ‘Research: Constraints, Opportunities and Ideation’ on 6th September 2021 on blended mode.

Professor Pati has worked as the Council Member of the World Federation of Societies of Chronobiology, Japan, and also of the International Society of Subterranean Biology, Paris. With wide-ranging academic and administrative experiences, notably Dean, Faculty of Life Sciences; Members of Academic Council (AC), Executive Council (EC), Academic Planning and Evaluation Board (APEB), Vision Committee; Founder Director, HRDC; Founder Director, National Centre for Natural Resources and Director of Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC), Professor Atanu Pati has over 200 scholarly publications of which 129 are listed in the Web of Science. He has guided 30 Ph.D. scholars and adjudicated about 75 Ph.D. theses. The Vice-Chancellors of various state universities, faculty members, and research scholars of universities across the state and KISS-DU attended the first lecture of the series.

Sharing real-life experiences on research, Professor Pati said: “I congratulate the university for introducing the innovation concept of engagement of Professor of Emeritus and Professor of Practice. Research is about addressing an issue, asking and answering questions, and solving a problem. Topic, novelty, technology, scope, mode, methodology, ideology, politics, utility and reassembling are some of the dimensions of research. Doing research and not publishing it is as good as putting it in a box and putting a lock on it. Research community should adopt the motto ‘Publish and Flourish.’ Literature Review is an essential aspect of any research. Research is about encouraging ideation that leads to a quality research article and getting it published in SCOPUS indexed journals. Innovation, imagination, ideation, finding opportunity and obtaining freedom are some of the ways of responding to constraints.”

Professor Pati concluded his address by talking about the digital presence of KISS-DU with special reference to its digital presence on the abstract and citation databases, such as SCOPUS and Web of Science. More research articles should be published by the faculty members of KISS-DU in order to bring their work to the limelight, he suggested.

Earlier, welcoming the speakers, dignitaries and participants, Professor Deepak Kumar Behera, Vice Chancellor, KISS-DU said, “I am elated to share that the newly formed Think-Tank of the University will play a key role in the decision-making processes and is committed to infusing indigenous flavor into the vision, mission, and planning of the university. Through these invited lectures we strive to create a platform for all the researchers of the state to listen to reputed researchers. KISS-DU is just a medium facilitating the entire process and contribution to the knowledge building of the research scholars in particular, and the entire state at large.”

Professor Pitabasa Sahoo, Pro-Vice Chancellor, KISS-DU thanked Professor Atanu Pati, Professors of Emeritus for the illuminating and informative lecture. He also thanked the members of the Think-Tank, Vice Chancellors of different universities, faculty members, and all the attendees and wished good luck for the upcoming lecture series.
